I bought my 2002 C5 new and currently have 44000 miles on it. I love the car and would like to put 100000 miles on it. The car is babied and taken extremely good care of...it's never even seen rain. But I do drive it. The first 3 years I owned the car I had numerous problems that you would not think you would have with a $50000 car...ie. new water pumps, rear end leaks in which all the O rings had to be replaced, electronic problems, seats that would not function properly(I can't use the easy entry feature because every time I do eventually the seats will start acting up),$300 dash light contoler,...well you get the idea. Although everything was covered under warrenty it is still troubling. My question is then to you Vette owners who actually drive your car other than to monthly car shows...how well do these cars hold up over time. I really don't want to be saddled with a car that is going to nickle and dime me to death...and I have never ever needed an extended warrenty for any of the other 10 new cars I have owned and they were far less expensive cars.
Thanks...RonC
I too wonder about this because you expect GM's finest production to hold up as well or better than their cheaper models. I have had countless problems with my car from minor to major and I wonder if it will ever stop. Sometimes it just makes me want to get out from underneath it and move on (only to another vette of course). Even with all the problems I've had, I still love the car and cannot think of anything else I would rather have!
Excellent question. I've been considering a C5/C6 for some time and wondered the same. Most of the posts in here are from "enthusiasts". I love the looks and performance of a vette, but in the end, it's just a car. (Can I say that in here?) I'm not buying a hobby, and I sure as hell hate dealing with repairs... warranty or not. I'd just like to be assured that $40 - $50K will buy me a dependable ride... with style.

Well, you've got more miles on yours than I do but with what you have had done, hopefully you are good to go for a long time. Lots of people here have are are approaching that 100K mile point and they seem to be happy with the way the car has held up.
I have a 2004 Automatic. I drive it every day back and forth to work (52 miles each way). I have NEVER had as many problems with any car I have ever owned. I love the car, but I will never buy another one. The problems I have had are too numerous to list, and the response I have gotten back from GM never satisfied me. Typical American car dealer. Sorry!

Mines a daily driver...has 27K no problems as of yet....Knock on wood

Interesting. I keep telling people that mine is more of a hobby than a car/transportation. I've got cars for transportation. The vette for me is really a toy - a really, really fast toy.
Daily driven through the snow, rain, and 100 degree weather. Driven right to the track and sprayed w/ a 100-150 shot all day then driven home. 40k miles on a 99.
This car has been great to me. Only issues were wheel bearing and a starter. Knock on wood though! Especially after that last cadillac i had.
Interesting...I was talking to a club member today who had a 2002 and had lots of little problems with it also. He traded for a C6 and has had no issues with it. My '00 has 33k with no problems whatsoever in the 3 years I've owned it.
As someone else has said, I bought mine as more of an "RV" but given that, I also purchased an extended warranty. That will take it to 76,000 miles with no major expense to me other than the warranty. If I needed the car as daily transportation, I probably would have stayed with the Toyota, but the Toyota will never give the fun that the Vette does.
