I live in VA and they require both plates. But, I don't like the look with the front plate, so I didn't install it. I have it laying in the front seat, and if I get pulled over, at least I have it. I've been driving it three years without it.

I hate to admit it, but I am a scofflaw when it comes down to front license plates. I don't have one on my vintage '68 Triumph Spitfire, I didn't put on one the front of my 'Vette, and as we speak, at this very moment, I have a mobile body/paint repair crew in my driveway, filling in the holes on the front of my wife's Jag. Whoever installed the plate holder originally did a crappy job and installed it crooked. It's always bugged me. So since I'm having some work done on the front bumper anyway, I told 'em to just fill in the holes and paint it like the front plate was never there... If I got tagged for it, I'll silicon the plate holder on there just long enough to get the fix it ticket signed off, and then it's coming back off, more than likely.
And this, from a guy who drives a Corvette mainly at the posted speed limit.
I also am in Illinois. I have several Leo friends and they told me that they rarely stop vettes for this alone. They all said if you are stoped for any other violation, you could easily be ticketed for no front plate as well. I haven't had on on since new in Nov. 1999. But I haven't been stoped yet. Mark
I agree. I'm also in Illinois and know of someone who was ticketed for this, but he was also being stopped for speeding. I don't press my luck, I just run with both plates. Besides, if you have a really cool vanity plate, it's nice to have it seen more.

When I bought my '02 vert, the front license plate frame was still (and remains) sealed in the original plastic bag. So, it's clear that in 3-4 years or whatever, my car has never had the front plate on.
The body/paint crew was here today, and I paid them extra to seal up the license plate mouting holes on my wife's S Type and the front end looks gorgeous. They did a great job repairing and repainting the whole front bumper.
Of course now, mw wife has caught wind of my dastardly deed and insists that I put the front plate back on her car because she doesn't want to carry the stress of being pulled over for not having the plate when she's out driving the car!!
I'm going to keep "forgetting" to put it back on -- for awhile, anyway.
Ohio requires two but I only run with the back one on. Someone mentioned why anyone would knowingly break the law? Dude, if you drive a corvette and don't occasionally (be it even a minor violation) break at least a speed law you might as well sell your car and buy a minivan.
Stopped by Police in town (Annapolis, Maryland) two months ago and told to put the plate on but I never did! Annapolis is only 7 square miles so I'm sure he will see me again. Yikes!
Same thing in my town. The cop lives down the street from me. $45.00 ticket. Payed it and continue driving without one. Cop was also giving me grief about my car being too loud . This guy lives just a block away and a LEO friend of ours says he is hated by all the LEO's in town. I'm sure he will see me again this summer and give me another ticket. My question about this is, why do motorcycles not have this requirement as well? Cop really didn't have an answer for me. He then seemed more agitated by me asking the question. He was just so disturbed about my car being too loud .
I live in NJ where both are required. I'd never consider putting the front plate on. To me, $30-$40 fine is worth the price of not having the plate The only time I had an issue is when I was forced to drive through one of these money generating traffic checkpoints.
Been ticketed in Cali. Had it verified by the local LEO (which was surprised I got a ticket for it), paid the fine...removed the front plate and so far haven't been cited again. If I had to I'd like to have a front cover like this one.

Good point also LOUD exhaust.
I do not use the front plate and was stopped last fall. LEO never said a word about no plate on the front and our conversation was not of the freindly type as it was a bogus stop that cost me $167.50
No, I have not had a front license plate mounted on any of my high performance Camaro's, Firebird 5.7L GTA's, C4's, nor, even my DD C5, since the early 80's. And, over time, I have also discovered how regionally, maintenance of such a ruling may perhaps differ. As an example, it appears that in Sacramento, this rule may be more commonly enforced (as reported by many unhappy Corvette club members in that region), whereas, in another area, it may not. Most importantly, I do make an effort to always drive sensibly, so as to not only commute safely, but, to also NOT draw negative attention. In a nutshell, it sure would be nice to see more uniformity in the No Front License Plate Required ruling supported throughout the U.S.
plus a money saver for the states that don't have a front plate. I had passed along a petition to be sent to CA's legislation to discontinue the requirement for a front plate and showed how much money could be saved by doing so. Don't know what happened to it..sure would be nice to generate a petition again to go before legislators again.
My older brother had a couple cars years ago that had no front plate... Got stopped several times.. once when I was driving one myself... Usually warnings but still...
In regards to our Vette...I always run it. Just like several others here, I have been tempted to put the cover over it and "when" stopped say, "Oops, I forgot to take the cover off after the last show..." But that would be lying to the nice policeman and that is NEVER a good thing...
I've been to a few jails to visit, but I do NOT want to live there!!!
Besides, my car ain't that pretty that I can't run the front plate!!
Here in the great state of CalEfornia, in the wonderful city of Merced, the police cruise the streets looking for CRIMINALS who have no front license plates on their Corvettes. They have two ways they find these SCOFFLAWS! 1) They cruise the mall parking lot and other places where one of these DELINQUENTS might be stupid enough to park their car with no front license plate attached and leave a ticket under the wiper 2) Should they pass by one of these VILLAINS and spot this flagrant violation of the vehicle code, even if the CROOK is otherwise obeying the law, they throw on the lights and siren and do a power sliding u turn and pour the coals to the cruiser to catch the CULPRIT red handed! I saw him flip the tire burning u'y with the lights and siren, so I immediately pulled to the right out of the right of way. I thought he was on his way to a bank robbery or some other heinous CRIME! I could NOT believe it when he pulled up behind me! I swear to Budha I was not doing anything wrong (other than driving my Corvette and blantantly and recklessly endangering my fellow citizens by not having my front license plate displayed). He asked if I knew why he pulled me over, I honestly told him I had no idea why he "stopped" me, I was doing nothing wrong! When he told me I had no front license, I almost thought he was kidding! I thought maybe I was being PUNK'd, I was looking for Aston Kutcher!
Why are they so over the top here? $196 fine. Thats why! Don't kid yourself, this is another TAX. Needless to say, I now have a front license plate and I suggest you do too if you come here.
