Here in the great state of CalEfornia, in the wonderful city of Merced, the police cruise the streets looking for CRIMINALS who have no front license plates on their Corvettes. They have two ways they find these SCOFFLAWS! 1) They cruise the mall parking lot and other places where one of these DELINQUENTS might be stupid enough to park their car with no front license plate attached and leave a ticket under the wiper 2) Should they pass by one of these VILLAINS and spot this flagrant violation of the vehicle code, even if the CROOK is otherwise obeying the law, they throw on the lights and siren and do a power sliding u turn and pour the coals to the cruiser to catch the CULPRIT red handed! I saw him flip the tire burning u'y with the lights and siren, so I immediately pulled to the right out of the right of way. I thought he was on his way to a bank robbery or some other heinous CRIME! I could NOT believe it when he pulled up behind me! I swear to Budha I was not doing anything wrong (other than driving my Corvette and blantantly and recklessly endangering my fellow citizens by not having my front license plate displayed). He asked if I knew why he pulled me over, I honestly told him I had no idea why he "stopped" me, I was doing nothing wrong! When he told me I had no front license, I almost thought he was kidding! I thought maybe I was being PUNK'd, I was looking for Aston Kutcher!
Why are they so over the top here? $196 fine. Thats why! Don't kid yourself, this is another TAX. Needless to say, I now have a front license plate and I suggest you do too if you come here.
WOW realestate isn't the only thing more expensive on the west coast $196.00 I'll pay my $45.00 and stay here.
I wouldn't put one on my Z06, that's for sure. A law or not in all states, no front license plate, may give a cop probable cause to pull you over.
I haven't been pulled over on my Z06 yet, but in my Z28 I have twice, both times by State Troopers.

I have threatened to put the cover on (during road trips) once I leave this great state of Nebraska because I figure a cop in another state wouldn't have the right to pull me over...
I live in a state (Illinois) that requires both front and back licence plates. The car looks much better without the front plates...and I see lots of vettes without them everyday. Anyone running without them have any problems...is it worth trying.
Thanks...RonC
I've never been stopped for not having a front license plate. As a retired police officer, I think they're pretty useless. There are some who would say that we need two license plates for identification purposes, but I don't buy it. Give me one license plate that will last several years as compared to two cheap ones.
I do it every once in a while, especially during a cruise, but for the most part I leave my front on with the clear bubbled cover on it which still leaves the clean lines. Is it worth the ticket? Probably not. Will you get stopped? Probably not. I just hate when people post a thread on the Forum complaining about the men in uniform doing their job....i.e. "He stopped me for only doing 7 over.....he stopped me for no front license plate" Take your chances, and if you get caught, suck it up!

I've benn pulled over and fined for no front plate. I don't care, I even put the black letters on the front plate (car is T.R.)
