Mud flaps should only be found on semi's and 4X4's. If you're worried about that grime that builds up then look into getting that clear tape stuff. I see it on a lot of high-end cars. Its great because you can't see it unless you look really close, and it really protects the paint. Just my 0.02 cents.
I've mud flats on my 4x4 pickup truck and they look fine there. Never like the look on any car ... especially a Vette. But to each thier own. If you are worried about the grim and don't mind the look, then go for it.
I had a small set of moulded "flaps" made for the C5 on my 98.
Truthfully, I don't think they looked too bad, like they weren't real obvious ...... and they sure stopped the chipping and crap from building up down the rocker panels and the back of the wheel wells.
I don't have them on my 01, but I'm thinking on it ... cleaning the mess behind the wheel wells is a pain!!!
On my c4 I made up a custom set from plexiglass (clear plastic). When they were on the car it was difficult to see them unless you were close to the car. I haven't tried making them for my c5 but, will soon.
