Default Chrome Fender Covers

Anyone get them from a vendor or supplier in less than a month? Noel at Autobuffs was gonna get me a set but they quoted him 5 WEEKS. Pardon me but that seems rediculous.

If you did get a set in a reasonable amount of time, was the quality OK?

You have the choice to buy from him or not. If you find it unreasonale buy from someone else.

Just a word of advice when getting into the chrome stuff....

EXPECT long lead times, and plan accordingly....that way every once in a while, you'll be surprised.
The few high-quality chrome plating shops left in this country all have huge backlogs and long lead times. It's just the way it is. Thank the EPA.

You could check with CEC, but I seem to recall reading they had a backlog on them too.

Their stuff looks great! Around Christmas they didn’t have a back log from what I remember. I think I received mine in a week or so.

After waiting 4 weeks for a price from a PA chromer, I was told the lead time to wait is 14 weeks.

Chromers are getting to be a rare breed.

Pay attention. I said "they" quoted him 5 weeks...not "he" quoted me 5 weeks. Reading is fundamental

In this case, the "they" was Creative Engine Covers. Noel and I have done good business together since 2000. Noel is a standup guy.

And OK...it looks like long lead times for chrome is the norm. Never would have thought it but the reason I asked was to find this kind of thing out.

Noel and Bill are both great people and vendors.

Unfortunately, since this isn't a stock part that's to be plated, you're kinda limited to who's producing the actual cover too. If it were strictly a plating lead-time issue, I might have offered some alternate suggestions.

5 weeks is nothing! Wait until you get it back after waiting and the chrome is unacceptable....more time, money(shipping), etc. Buy the part unfinished if you can and start dealing with your own chromer. Offer CASH to the chromer and they will work wonders for you.. Just my 2 cents..

How about the ones in the MidAmerica and Ecklers catalogs? They say they are mirror polished stainless steel as opposed to true chrome but the pictures look just as good as anything else I've seen.

Anyone have these or seen these in person?

They / He but it is still up to you to decide if you wish to buy from him. If another vendor has a different supplier and can provide the items quick then go with them.

Stainless is OK if you have ALL Stainless, but next to chrome it has a yellow tint.

Been there , done that.....Depends what you are looking for. Are you looking for just a little dress or all out show winning quality. Totally depends what your intentions are for the car. Don't be cheap it will cost you in the long run. I have over $1000 in return shipping to various Catalog Companies due to lack of quality... Heck even when I paid alot I still had bad chrome jobs. Remember that chrome or anything you do to the car is a want, not a need. You should only be satisfied with quality mdse and quality jobs . And yes, even with Design Specialties I returned stuff for redo's B/C of the middle man(chromer).

I have them. They look great but the problem with polished stainless is that they scratch VERY easily. No matter how careful you are they WILL get scratched.

Be VERY careful with the chrome, it' just like crack cocaine (not that I know from first hand experience) but once you start, you can never get enough and once you run out of things to velcro or stick on you will start taking parts off to have plated. THANKS Tom, you got me additcted. It is fun though. Can be tricky if you are married. PS- Don't be cheap, get the good stuff to start out. Can't tell ya how many guys I've seen selling their stainless steel parts for the chrome ones. I have purchased more parts from CEC than I care to mention ( at least to my wife), and have never had any issues with the quality of the parts. And yes, I'm still looking for my next fix!!!! I have allways had to wait 6 to 8 wks from the local chrome shop for the parts I have had chromed.

Well, I'm gonna give 'em a shot anyway mainly for two reasons:

a) Both Ecklers and MidAmerica had them in stock ready for immediate shipment.
b) They were almost 1/3rd the price of the CEC chrome ones...not that price is really that big a deal for me.

If they scratch fast and badly, I'll just order the long lead time real chrome units. At least I'll have something on there while I wait.

The bottom line for me is that Autobuffs just created a special custom paint theme for me and I want the polished or chrome stuff to finish up the awesome look before I show it.

If you have any more money to waste, feel free to send some my way.....Something is better than nothing, I guess. Those will be fine , for show purpose,in a pinch. DO NOT RUB ON THEM! Have fun and good luck at your shows!
