There have been some pretty big leaps in the recent months with LS based heads. If I were you, I would go with a set of Darts, Edelbrocks, etc etc. Theres no reason to drop 2300 on a set of heads when you can spend 1700 and get 99% of the same thing.
Are there any vendors on this forum that carry the Edelbrock's? If so, do you really think I am better off getting those as opposed to the AFR's?

There is a forum member names Geneus with a Z06 that has a head/cam package and some bolt-ons. I'm not sure of the rwhp numbers his car makes, but I do know that he runs consistent low 11's and his car sounds awesome. Send him an IM and perhaps he can lead you in the right direction as far as which heads and what size cam.

Heads 1500

Springs 250
install 1200
tune 450

TOTAL 3775

You will need a little cash for gaskets wtc etc etc..
This should net you some SERIOUS power..
What I would do. Stage 2/3 heads with a big lopey cam.

I think a nice head/cam package would work nice for you. It will give you a significant increase in power. Keep in mind, you should consider upgrading your clutch and adding a hardened output shaft...especially if you're going to do any drag racing. You'll being pushing the limits of the stock clutch with a head/cam package.

You could go cam+tune now and add the heads later. That way you could upgrade the clutch and hardened output shaft now and stay within budget. An LS7 clutch would be a good option for you.

If you could elaborate more on these it would be great. What exactly is the brand? Where can I get such a setup? Prices? I appreciate all your help.

Get a set of 3.73, 3.90 or 4.10 rear gears - or like was mentioned above a used set of heads and then a nice cam.

How badly will my gas mileage suffer if I go with a Head/Cam package (G5X3 cam)

Not as bad as you'd think. I'd say youd still be in the mid 20's on the highway. One thing to remember on the pricing though is that for the G5X2, X3, and cams of similar size you really want to go with Comp 921 valve springs.

Here's my breakdown.

Cam, G5X3 = $449
Comp 921 Springs = $550 (includes retainers, seats, seals for #243's)
Fast 90 Intake = $800
90mm LS2 TB = $250?
Chromolly Pushrods = $114.95
Comp R Lifters = $199.95
TSP CNC Ported LS6 Heads = $900/pr (i believe)

Install = $1000 (at most) or so at most shops or a lot less if you can do it yourself or get a friend to.

Dyno Tune = $400

That all equals ~$4700

Sell your stock LS6 heads and get back $500
Sell your stock LS6 intake for $300

Total Spent = ~$3900 Installed, not including tax or shipping. And will probably make you ~450rwhp.

Not a bad way to go if you can't afford $6000 or so for a blower and install.

Edit: If you can get an inexpensive install then you can bump up to a few other nice things like a ported LS6 Oil Pump, LS2 timing chain, larger injectors, and such. I forgot to factor in gaskets but those shouldn't be a lot.

Shane
