Go for it. You can always find a dependable "beater" to take care of the DD issues. Don't pass up the opportunity for a Vette by being to reasonable.

Don't Wait!
You could do like I did. I finally bought my 99 three weeks ago at the young age of 62. Of course the kids were gone, the house paid off, and maybe I'll live a little awhile longer to enjoy it OR just go for it.
Either way it's all about $$$ and time. Which is more important to you right now?
Key is to take wife out to price the 06 then let her find a "cheaper" 99C. Bought mine on EBay, 30k miles, for $21K and it's fantastic! Worth the wait.

So isn't anybody else using theirs as their daily driver??? That's what I plan on doing. When asked what I'm going to do when it snows, my reply is "take a vacation day". When you come to think of it, there aren't that many days here in PA when the snow is a problem.
I have to get rid of my previous vehicle to help defray the cost of the Vette. Having more that one vehicle also runs up the old insurance bill. Of course, after having a super mild winter, just 2 weeks after buying the Vette, we got 6" of snow. It happened on a weekend when I really didn't have to go anywhere, and was cleared away come Monday, but I just can't bring myself to take the "new" Vette out into all that salt and chemical crap. It's still too "new" to me and all cleaned up. It's killing me not driving it though.
Fortunately/unfortunately I didn't sell the other car yet so right now I have the option of letting the Vette safe and sound and salt free in the garage. Sooner or later though it's gonna assume DD duties.

Here is what I did. Bought my son a Nissan Sentra SER. Bought my daughter a Mitsubishi Eclipse Convertible, my wife a Hummer H3. That just leaves me. I drive a van daily because of my business. For fun I bought myself the Vette (C5) and a 1991 454SS pickup. Now everybody has the car they want and everyone's happy.

The '02 vette stays in the garage when the weather's bad. My DD is an '02 Jeep Wrangler Saraha, and the wife drives an '05 Jeep GC, so we don't need the extra wheels in the winter. Works fine for us.

Get the Vette and then perhaps an inexpensive daily driver. Lots of good ones out there, even some that are brand new for around $13-14K

Corvettes have been my daily drivers since April 1989 and I would not have it any other way. First there was an C4 88 Z61 Red Coupe, followed by a 96 White A4 Coupe and then the present C5, a 2004 Machine Silver Coupe A4 with red interior.

We buy Vettes becuz they are so much fun to drive...so why let them sit and drive something else??? The first year I had my first Vette, a 69 Vert, I put 32,000 miles on it...and enjoyed every inch of the way. I didn't buy this thing to deprive myself just to keep the mileage low for the next guy!
Like I said, I'm just a little **** about it right now becuz it is still so nice and clean and perfect looking from being all detailed up to be sold. I did drive in the rain for a week the first week I had it, but this salt is another matter.
Another problem is there is a construction site right next to my office and I have to go by it. The road is so hogged up with stones and mud I feel like I'm off-roading. I have complained several times but it isn't helping much. It's like torture not driving this thing though.

3 cars are not so bad...I put the other two out in the driveway when I brought mine home...so every one has lots of room to walk around with out touching it!!!
My wife said she wanted back in the garage, just for the winter, I told her she was replaceable, end of story...

My DD is a C5. For special C5 moments I have a somewhat heavily modded C5 and for vintage moments I have a restored 73.
Should family duty call, we'll use the wife's Explorer.
Just do what ya got to do and go have fun...

I live in Central Ohio. I took a cruise in the 'Vert with the top down for about 30 minutes after work today. If you want to be rational, drive a civic until it has 300,000 miles on the odometer.
If you want to make a few dives a week a lot more fun, get a 'Vette. And make it a converible with a 6 Speed.
My daily driver is a 2000 Toyota Solara with 94,000. It will probably tolerate my abusive driving for at least another 50,000. With my driving split between the 'vette and the Toyota, I will probably not need a new daily driver for at least 5 years. You can drive a generic Family sedan or SUV most of the time, and drive the vette when the time permits.

I own two Vette's and three "runaround" cars. My wife has a Malibu, and I have two Cavaliers. One of the Cavaliers serves as a 'winter driver',and with frontwheel drive and studded tires it goes well here in snow country and gets 30+ mpg. You can buy them off ebay for $2000 less than a dealer wants for them used a year old. The four-door sedan even has strap anchors in the rear seat for kiddie seats. I look at them as 'throwaway' cars, and generally run them 150,000 miles per unit. They are easy to maintain, and you know, they were the best-seller GM made, and now they are not making them any more after 2005. I guess I just do not understand big auto business. Perhaps GM doesn't either, as they have so demonstrated.

Ohio Winter? Not this year. I've had my 2000 FRC as my DD this year, with only a few days in the grand am or venture van. The FRC gets better highway mileage than either of our other cars, and is considerable more fun. Family travel is in the van with the car seat. Finally, I also have a fantastic wife who enjoys seeing me enjoy life!

just make sure your wife has had several 50k+ new burbs purchased for her prior to you saying "hey honey i think i'm gonna buy a car today" dont mention the type of car. just throw out the " hey whada ya think, red ,or black" she will say you pick it, its your car. then you bring that bad boy home and say "whada ya think aint she pretty!!!!! i never thaught i would ever be able to have one thankyou" what the heck is she gonna say????? and if its bad, hey you'll have a bad to the bone car to go cruising with till she calms down.
