Default Tint question!

Just had my 02 coupe tinted and they did not tint the top of the back window. They claim you should not cover the dots on the defroster because the tint will not last and will eventually come off. Is this true????

No, they just did not have the skills to do it.

Your window top section is diffrent then mine. I have an 02 and not sure why it has a top section filled with dots.

What film did you use? I'm told solar guard might work but the performance tint that I'm using will not stick to dots.

They tell me metalic tint won't last on dots and will eventually peel or start to come off. How long have you had yours?

They told me the metalic based performance tint just won't stick to dot matrix. Do you know of another film that will?

I think you need to check with different installers. Any type of tint can be applied over the dots if they know what they are doing. My installer has done numerous vehicles (both Vette and non Vette cars) with no problems. My tint has been on for over 3 years and looks perfect. Good luck!

Just went through this today with my installer (having the tint removed that was on the car when I bought it). He said that they use vinyl or black paint on the dots. The existing tint (from another vendor) used vinyl on the dots.

Yeah my installer said I should try vinyl. Have you seen what it looks like with vinyl? Is it nice?

Default Vinyl

Mine had the vinyl on it. Personally I could not tell what type of tint it was. The installer had to pick at it with his finger to tell if it was paint, vinyl or film. I have been going to this guy for 20 years and I trust what he says. The only thing about using two types of film it that there is a seam line between the films.

My installer used Formula One metalic tints made by CPFilms. He went right over the dot matrix on my '02. All Formula One tints come with a Lifetime warantee against chipping, peeling, or bubbling.

My installer sanded them down. That worked pretty good but I wanted him to do the vinyl like another guy did on my kid's Honda which came out extremely well.

I have the dots like all Vettes do, the guy just knew what he was doing, that is why it hard to tell from the photos. He used one piece, computer cut. It is 35%. It is Llumar brand tint.
