If you have the money, some say do them at the same time, cheaper labor cost as opposed to bringing down the tranny twice but that's the only advantage. Otherwise, stock T/C are able to handle the 3.42 rear for an A4 if you decide to upgrade which is what i'm going to do to. I'm keeping my T/C stock and changing the rear end from 3.15 to 3.42

Do you drive your C5 a lot? Because if you do a big stall and 3.42's is going to kill your gas mileage.
Do a stall first and see how you like it. Atleast 3000 or it's not even worth it.
Ya the C5 is my daily driver. But I want more kick!! i know with just the T/C it will drop 1/2sec in the qt. mile. What will i get in the qt. mile if i go with just the 3.42 rear end??
Oh and what should somthing like this cost me all to get the T/C and installed. Or the rear and installed?
Ok so all stock A4s are 3.15?? Or just some?? It was posted that some are 2.73.
Thanx
Nate
Nate,
I'm referring you to a thread in the "other" Corvette Forum that I started regarding upgrading my 2:73 differential in my 04 CE coupe. "Mike Mercury" posted a very good synopsis of what he did and why...might help you in your decision.
See this link: http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/...ad.php?t=78755
Hope it helps!

BTW, I haven't done my mod yet...saving $$ to buy the 3:42 differential!
correct me if im wrong but I can buy a used 3.42 rear off a 6spd and through it in my A4??
thanx 4 all Ur help
nate
That's what I'm doing. If you have 2.73 rear end, you will need a whole pumpkin. But if you have 3.15 gears, you can just get the 3.42 ring/pinion and have a reputable shop do the install for you, sometimes it's cheaper to go this route unless you can buy a used whole assembly 3.42 rear end. And yes for the A4, you will need to reprogram the shift points. For MN6 you won't need too.
