I just checked my Vette at the storage garage I keep it at and the rotors are slightly covered in a light rust? Is this Ok if I just leave it alone or should I really take the car out for a ride and work the brakes?
If you was your car and let it dry before you drive it... it will build a light coat of rust on the rotors... It gets removed the first few times your brake
So some light rust on storage in a damp area is not a surprise.
If you want to minimize it, put a heavy plastic sheet or tarp under the car. That traps the moisture between it and the floor, leaving your rotors and car chassis rust free
With that amount of humidity, I would be concerned about mould growing inside the car. mould on leather is not pretty and very tough to get rid of... I would also put some dessicant ( silica gel) inside the car. I buy mine call dry rite at a gander mountain outfitters in the gun department. It is usually used to keep gun safes dry. It is in a 1 quart metal can with a see thru lid. When charged the crystals are blue, when they turn pink, it's time to recahrge them ... done by drying the contianer in the oven
Rotors are going to rust along the fire path but many of us have swapped out to Zinc coated rotors which keeps the rest of the rotor rust free. Sportbrake rotors are a good buy. I have had mine on for more than a year now and I am very happy.
it's normal . when I see that on mine , I drive it around the block , and BAM , all is gone .
My next set of rotors will be zinc plated , problem solved then
After driving it some the zinc coating will wear off in the fire path and it will still rust.
it shouldn't....I have had mine on over 2 years and hard driving...no rust...I do see some what appears to be rust but that is usually the brake dust particles that didnt wash away completely...but nothing like he is describing

Chuck
Nice rotors Chuck, when it's time for a new set zinc coated and cross drilled will be the way I go. Until then though I'll just have to take my car out for spin. It's a nice day around here anyway. Cold, but dry.
Thanks for the advice guys.
