Early this past Thursday morning I was driving south on I-77 in South Carolina when I was passed by a nice looking Corvette from Florida.
I was towing my Rail Speeder behind me and he pulled up and checked it out and then pulled along side, gave me a nice wave, and headed on south to the sunshine State.
I spent the day with a friend clearing saplings from the track at the SC Railroad Museum and late in the afternoon heading north and back home I got three more waves from south bound Corvettes.
A great day!
Go to my PutFile page and check out some of the videos taken from inside my railroad speeder.
I waved to a guy in a nice red '63 Split Window. He looked, but never waved back. He looked to be the original owner, and was driving about 10 MPH below the posted limit.
On a short ride today, I came upon another C5 mag red traveling in the opposite direction. I gave him a wave, and he actually saw and waved back!! It was a youngish guy maybe in his 30's. That was my first time in the C5 to see another Corvette, my first attempt to wave, and it was acknowledged, so that is COOL! Jon
It's always great to get a wave. Noticed you were towing along at a nice pace.
I had my speed control set at 78 when he came up on me and by the time I was able to reach behind me to get my camera I had to speed up a bit to get the photo.
I have found that the Vette pulls the trailer very nicely below about 50 mph and above about 70-75 mph. In between those two speeds it tends to "surge" a bit. I don't know why it does this, but it doesn't seem like a good thing.
The two photos below will give you an idea what towing my speeder is all about.
I get more drag from towing the speeder than I probably would with two of the parachutes the drag racers use to get slowed down after a race. Gas mileage towing the speeder at 78 mph is about 11 mpg.
I have hauled my riding lawn mower which is much lower and with it on the trailer, gas mileage drops form the normal 27 mpg at 78 mph down to about 25 mpg.

Had a strange day today. I was on a caravan with 12 Vettes. On 2 lane country roads, we passed several Vettes (singles) going the oposite way. I waved to all and got no replies. I never give it a second thought when another Vetter doesn't notice me, but how can you miss a line of TWELVE of us?
The people that don't wave are:
1) New owners and don't know the tradition.
2) Cocky and don't care about tradition.
3) Too dumb to know about the wave.
I love it when I get a wave, I look for vettes on the road to make sure at least I wave...
