Was talking with a friend, who seem to get inside info, and he said GM is considering producing a Corvette SS in the future. They have dropped the Silverado SS, the SSR and will not build the Colorado SS, kind of taking the fun out of things. Anyway, anyone know anything about rumor??????
Oh GM, please make it stop! I took the Impala SS side scripts off my 95 Impala because it seems Chevrolet will put the "SS" badges on anything the last couple of years.
As far as a nameplate that will invoke sales from the Corvette fanbase, my money would be on Z06 over SS. Hasn't been an SS badge on a Vette in 53 years, and seriously doubt there will be one for the future.
I hear it's true..I also know of one So. California dealer who tried to beat GM to it by throwing some SS badges on a standard C6 coupe along with a few other visual enhancements..Asking price: 81k..I asked a guy I know who works there what the deal is and why they did it.."Aw man, it's a fake.." I'm wondering if they'll admit that to the next guy who has no clue..

No need to use "SS" on a Corvette. Leave the "SS" to the Chevrolet steel bodied cars. ZO6 and other RPO codes are better suited to special high performace Corvettes. Just my 2 cents.

For that comment young man, I will take your keys away from you at the cruise-in for punishment. I will watch your car for you. I just watch you go and sit in your room and reflect on what you just said
BTW the key will be to the one with the 427 in it.

Over 50 years and there's never been a Corvette SS so why start now...

Automotive history is filled with a series of "what-ifs," and few of these "what-ifs" are as intriguing to Corvette racing fans as the 1957 Corvette SS project.
In the early days before the Corvette was an American icon, and at the time even in danger of being discontinued by GM management, one obvious tactic to shore up the Corvette's sports car image and spur sales was to institute a racing program. Thus was born the short-lived Corvette SS project, with the initial goal of winning at Sebring. Led by the gifted Zora Arkus-Duntov, a team of engineers created this ultra-lightweight (1850 lbs) and powerful (307 bhp) racecar.
Success at Sebring for this stunning racer was unfortunately not in the cards. Although the SS was extremely fast for its day (top recorded speed of 183 mph), a series of mechanical problems forced it to retire after 23 laps in the Sebring 12-Hour race. Shortly thereafter, the ban on factory-sponsored racing efforts by the Detroit manufacturers spelled the end of the SS project.
I don't know if the guy knew what he was talking about, but I went to Courtesy Chevrolet (San Jose, CA) when they had the traveling "Corvette Heritage Tour" at their dealership. The tour is a GM program where they have a semi truck or two traveling the country promoting the Vette. They had a retired C5R, a couple of vintage Vettes and the new C6-Z06 (before it was available at dealers). One of the guys working the tour said they were coming out with an SS version that would be a super charged DOHC at 700hp. Hey, if it's true, put me on that waiting list!

I have been a bad boy - no driving for the next 20 minutes
Keys, for that time, will be available for you, even the ones to the 427

I'm glad someone finally remembered that car! I was going to mention it if you didn't. While there was never a production Corvette SS, there was indeed a Corvette SS, and it was around five or so years before a Corvette Z06 ever came out.
