Hi all. I just got a 2003 Z06, black on black, this past weekend. Enjoying the heck out of it so far. Very fun car to drive. I've read a number of threads on mods that I'm considering, but I plan on driving the car for a while and getting to know it before I start fooling around too much.
That said, I do intend to track the car. I do events with several different clubs at Lime Rock, Watkins Glen, Pocono, which is a big part of why I got the Z. Although not required in a coupe, I would like to install a roll bar, for safety, to attach harnesses, etc. I've been looking around and have seen the Kirk Bolt-in Roll Bar. Looks like it would suit my purposes pretty well. Does anyone here have one and do you like it? Or can you suggest a stock alternative? I'm not at the point that I need a full roll cage. I do track days/HPDE events, not wheel to wheel racing.
Also, any suggestions/tips on removing the memory driver's seat and replacing with a racing seat? I have a Kirkey 16" aluminum seat from another car and was considering seeing if it would fit. Any alternatives that fit the Z would be appreciated as well.
Regards,
Steve

Post this up in the autocross/roadracing forum... search that forum too. You'll find all the info you need. The Z06 allready has a very strong roof structure w/ the integrated hoop, but more is always better!
As for seats.... yep the Kirkey will work, you may have to get a new mount structure. I think harbar racing sells the stuff you'll need.
Personally I run the Brey Krause lap belt mount kit and harnessbar with 6-pt belts.

If I don't really need the roll bar, so much the better. I saw the Brey Krause harness bar listed as well and wondered if that would do the trick for me. Think you answered that question as well. Need to look into the lap belt mount kit. Does that incorporate the crotch strap mount as well?Originally Posted by Cobra4B

^ No... if you run 6-pt belts it has 2 "crotch" straps that mount to the lap belt mouts in the 2nd hole. It holds you like a parachute harness. I have run 5-pt belts with them by simply loopint the anti-sub belt under my let, but the right way to do it is cut the seat and install a hardbar anti-sub belt mount kit thing. If you're running stock sets it's best to go with the BK kit and a 6-pt belt.
You don't need the roll bar... the chassis looks like this.

The roof structure has held up very well in rollovers from what I've seen, but a roll bar is always nice... it's just a much more involved install whereas the bk will simply unbolt and the car goes back to stock.

The SCCA World Challenge racers on this forum cut out the stock roil over hoop because it is so much heavier than the chrome-moly tube they replace it with. Seats, harness bar, and 6 point belts, and you'll be fine for all but a very fast crash or very fast t-bone hit. Then you would need a full 6 point cage with nascar style side protection.

I have the 2 inch Kirk bar installed in my car. It is heavy and it blocks the rear view mirror. I originally had this bar installed in my 97 coupe and found it blocked the mirror in that car. When I installed it in the 03Z I had it raised since the hardtop roof allows the bar to go higher. When it was all in place I found it still blocked the mirror. Turned out that GM changed the mirrors along the way and the new mirror will not go as low as the one in the 97.
