Got this in the mail today: Date FEB 2006 This letter is to make you aware that some 2002 model year Chevrolet Corvette vehicles may have a condition where the steering lock fails to unlock the steering column when the vehicle is started. This steering lock condition will cause a message to appear in the DIC display telling you to pull the key and wait ten seconds. It will also shut off the fuel supply if you attempt tp drive the vehicle while the steering wheel is locked.
THIS IS NOT A RECALL. Do not take your vehicle to your Chevrolet dealer as a result of this letter unless you believe that your vehicle has the condition as described above.
WHAT WE HAVE DONE: General Motors is providing owners with additional protection in the event that the steering column fails to unlock when the vehicle is started. If this condition occurs on your 2002 Chevrolet Corvette, the condition will be repaired for you at NO CHARGE UNTIL FEBURARY 29,2008.
WHAT YOU SHOULD DO: Repairs and adjustments qualifying under this special coverage must be performed by a General Motors dealer. Keep this letter with your other important glove box literature for future reference.

Apparently SOME 04's as well. I checked with a couple of friends today that have 04's, same letter. . This should be a major recall and have the dam plate ripped out. A friend who has a mn6 C6, said he doesn't have a locking steering wheel at all. Looks like GM finally realized their manufacture's defect. So they stop putting this in on new model years, but their trying to limit the recall on the C5s
I got my letter today, I guess we can call it version number 1
But what i dont understand is, if it fails will GM provide a free tow since they are saying you dont have to bring your car in.
