I know a few people will jump in here with the fact the left axle seal leaks. I had a small leak on my 6-speed and it was the shifter seal. Cost I can only guess at because mine was under warrantee at the time, but it was in the shop for a week.

Not the seal?? Short of a possible hairline crack, I'm not sure what the problem would be. May want to post in the Tech section if you don't get more of a response here. Good luck

Just a thought but you haven't recently had it serviced have you?
I had mine done and the dealer over-filled the transmission oil. It vented until they drained it to the correct level.
Apparently it can also vent if driven hard (over 100 for a significant period) Guess what the dealer accused me of doing
