As much as I hate to admit it, age might be a factor in this decision as well. If you're under 40 and in good health, a manual isn't bad even in heavy traffic, but as I started creeping into my mid '40's, pumping the clutch during stop and go traffic on the freeway just got to be a chore -- and sometimes -- a literal pain, albeit slight. My wife and I have had primarily manual transmissioned vehicles for the last quarter century. But now that we're both in our mid to late 40's, comfort and convenience are definitely a factor we've considered with our last couple of vehicle purchases.
Wanted an M6. Ended up getting an A4 because I found the perfect car at the perfect price. My only hangup at the time was that it is an A4. Couldn't be happier now. I wouldn't make it a stick if I could.
It is my daily driver. If it was a weekend car I am sure that I would feel different.
Find a car that you can't quit thinking about, write the check and have fun.
Me too! He did ask for opinions and as you guys know there is no shortage of them about this subject. Like some others I have had both and enjoyed each of them. Currently I have the A4 with the performance axle and I love it. I do appreciate it more in heavy traffic and I think there is no difference between the A4 and the MN6 with the performance rear end in the A4. As everyone knows a lot of the bottom line time is the driver who is shifting the MN6 not the tranny.
I have the A4 with 3:15s and love it! Sometimes I wish I had a M6, so I can drop the hammer or through REVs at folks, but I enjoy the ease of the PUNCH it and hang on deal.

I must admit it is nice to Rev at people..Everyone seems to want me too, and when I do they all love it .......and dropping the hammer on it could not give me a bigger smile...

Do any of you A4 guys shift the car? When I am in the mood to play, I shift my A4 mine through the gears & downshift too. Just because you have an A4 dowsn't mean you have to throw it in to Drive.
At the race track I have taken down Ferraris, Porches, Vipers, Vettes & a variety of SCCA track cars...no one after a race has ever come over & said, "But you are not driving a sportscar".

I start in first all the time and slam through the rpms and now that I have the TC installed it is a lot more fun!
You have to remember the state of mind a new corvette owner or future owner is in when they ask these innocent questions. A bonafide dilema!
Yellow vs Red vs Lloyds vs Vert vs FRC vs Coupe vs M6 vs A4 vs Lloyds vs Corsa vs Blackwing vs MAF vs Vortech vs cam specs. Its all a learning process and we've all been there.
I get a kick out of it myself, it reminds me of the 18 mos I spent waiting for my C5 and all the dumb questions I brought up, trying to survive the wait. I get those all too familiar butterflies and giggles all over again

This is one of the two most common threads here - the other is coupe vs convertible. There is no right or wrong answer, it comes down to preference. Anyone that says it's not a real Corvette with an automatic is full of
Some of the fastest street cars in the world have a form of an automatic. The Bugatti Veyron, the McLaren F1, the Porsche GT and the Ferraris all have an automatics and no one would doubt their pedigree.
I happen to have an MN6 and I love it. I wouldn't have it any other way - but that's not the answer for everyone.
If you're drag racing - 99% of the people at the strip are faster with an automatic than they would be with a manual. Notice I said 99%.
A4 vs M6 is definately a personal thing. I went with the A4 since I live in Toronto and drive in stop-and-go traffic daily. I know the M6's are usually faster, if driven well. I didn't really compare the prices between the A4's and M6's when I bought my used 01 but, brand new the A4 was standard while the M6 was an extra change. Whether that is reflected in used vehicle prices, I don't know. I know if I was buying brand new, I personally would rather invest in a torque converter instead of the extra M6 charge. But that is just me. I can't speak for anyone else.
Good luck. I hope you find what you're looking for.
