Default Clear Tail light Lens

For those that have installed the clear tail light LENS ONLY not the housing I have 3 questions. First... How do you seperate the original RED lens from the housing? Second... How did you bond the clear lens to the factory housing and make it waterproof? Third... What is the best RED BULB to use for this application? My car is Quick Silver and I now have the Clear Red Euro lights and just want to be a little different. No need for the ricer flames.
Thanks
Bob

Not sure I understand the question

Are these the lights you are trying to fit?

No, thats what I have now. These are just the outer lens. Basicly just what you see as the colored portion. What I need to do is remove the colored lens from the housing and re-glue this new completely clear OUTER lens to the existing housing. I did not recieve them yet so I can't post a picture.

There is a forum member, Jasonevil1, who has done it and he said seperating the old red lens from the housing is very time consuming, if you get ahold of him he will probably tell you how he did it. When I asked him about where he got his lenses he told me Ecklers, when I called Ecklers they no longer handle the clear lens, where did you get yours? I would like to get a set of them. If you need Jasons e-mail PM me.

Wow, changing out those lenses would have to be a major PITA! Good luck to you though. I'll look forward to seeing the completed project You might want to look into lighting them up with Red LEDs. But do yourself a favor and don't deal with Superlumination. The only thing "Super" about them is their "Super" level of total incompetence!

Bob, I think I have some replacement LED 3157 bulbs in the garage. I will need to see if they are red or clear. If they are red, I will bring them with me on Saturday. You can have them. The SS uses 1157's and the LEDs I have on the Z aren't going anywhere. All you would need are 4 of the resistors for the turn signals. I got these from www.superbrightleds.com (I think that is the site).

I got them from Josh (Pacethis) here on the forum. DHL has a delivery date for tomorrow. I won't be home until Friday afternoon to get them. Here is his thread from Monday. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...is&forum_id=53

I just ran across the thread by 01silvervette and I now know where you found the lenses, and I also read the reason why they are no longer available, but if anyone else out there is cleaning out their garage and has a set they want to part with contact me. Thanks

You know, in looking at these clear lenses I would probably "carefully" slice the red lenses off with a Dremmel. Then use clear silcone sealer to bond the clears on. Making a nice even cut would be the most difficult part. Just slice where the red lens meets the black housing and use that as your guide. I'l can even send you some damaged lights to practice on. In fact I'll try one and report back with photos shortly.

It really wasn't all that difficult. Now you would just need to file off the edge of the housing. I probably spent about 15 minutes on the single housing. Let me know if you want a couple housings for practice

I've separated the clear headlamp lens from it's housing by heating it in the oven @ 250deg for 15 - 20 mins. The time is not exact and you'll have to reheat as you separate because of cooling. This method leaves two pretty good surfaces.
