is there a speed limiter on the 2002 zo6 corvette.? i can only top out at 153mph approaching 5800rpm in 5th gear, when i dumped 6th gear the car started to slow down. . why? please help. i already used the diablo programmer on the car and the car has all the bolt on's in place.

It may has something to do with your gearing, my 1999 Z28 with the M6 topped out at the same speed and it had a lot to do with my drag limits and gearing. You could trade it in for a coupe!
The only limiter I know of built into the car is the rev limiter. If you are stock-horse power falls off over 6000rpms and sixth gear is to tall for a stock motor to pull. You can definitly tell when you hit the rev limiter.

I would think with the stock 3.42's you should be able to pull beyond 153. If you had higher gears, that would reduce your ability to reach a higher top speed, like 3.90's or 4.10's. One way you can tell is when you put the car in 4th gear and hit 70mph - how many rpm's are you turning? If you're turning 4100 rpm - then you have 4.10's. If you are turning 3900 rpm, then you have a 3.90......I think you get the point.
I assume that this top speed run was performed on a closed course, right?

pretty cool..... i didn't know you could tell like that
And it looks like I mistakenly stated 70mph - it should be 75mph. The key is 3rd with an A4 or 4th with an MN6 or MN12. The idea is to be in the gear that is the one to one ratio.

Technically there is a register in the on board computer that is a top speed limiter. It is set above the stock speed you are capable of in a Z06 due to aero drag. If memory serves it is around 185 +/- 2. Of course I am sure someone will say I am 100% wrong, so take it with a grain of salt until someone can pull up the chart of programmable registers.
No limiters to my knowledge. Huh... I need to go out and do a top speed run again, now that my body work is done. I know that 130-135 felt more "firm" and "grounded" now then it did before. I wonder if I get any drag after those speeds. I need to change the tow before I atempt a 160+ run any time soon. I was able to top out 3 178MPH runs a few years ago. This was on a runway... I ran out of track before speed.
The rpm's at 60mph are at 1500rpm's in 6th gear. as far as were i was able to acheive these speeds there is a great long straight road near jones beach in ny. btw, i forgot to mention i didnt have the 2 front o2 sensors hooked up and i had a 1 bad o2 sim. could this have been the problem? i wil try is again this weekend if the weather permits. i now have all the sensors hooked up and replaced the bad o2 sim. also for some reason with the diablo scanner hooked up the mv at the leaft rear sensor stays at aboubt 440 to 455 not much change in variables like the others. so strange. even at 153mph. it is quite scary. 1 mistake and im toast. and im sure there will be no more replys from me. i will check the gear ratio to be certain. its funny how fast you come up on cars doing 70mph doing over 150mph. someone metioned to me that it might be the clutch slipping, im doubtful because the car burns rubber to third gear. the tires are stock height. any thoughts?
I did 178 mph in my 97 and I am sure that either a fuel cutoff or speed limiter kicked in. The car would of went faster. By the way it was night time, I had those head lights up that are suppose to be a problem for aerodynamics.

The technical speed limit is 255 (FF in hexidecimal notation) which is encoded in the PCM.
Other than that, there is no speed limiter in the C5 Corvette.
