I'll be installing the Vararam on my '02. Too bad it doesn't work with the Tiger fascia.

Is it necessary to cut off the lip on the lower housing on the VR-1B system to make the k+n fit??
It shouldn't be necessary to cut either the K&N or the housing on the Vararam. I actually put some foam weather strip around the lip of the upper and lower housings to get a good seal. I then used a 1 1/2 inch putty knife and "shoehorned" the rubber lip of the K&N into the lower housing. Fits nice and snug, and doesn't throw NEAR as many codes on my '04 Z as the wimpy foam filter that came with the VR-B2. I was also getting some dirt into the TB with the foam filter, but with the K&N everything is nice and clean!
What's a good intake with good performance gains AND good quality with no fitment issues?
Take your time on the vararam install and it will fit fine. I have had two of them and they fit very well. Cajun has a how too that is very good to follow.

Feedback Please - Yes 0r No?
Vararam quality is better than the initial build quality components of the Corvette that you are putting it on. I saw excellent gains when I put one on my '99 automatic.
Vararam is a nice concept and despite many fitment issues, I used to be a proponent.
However, after seeing first hand how their flimsy foam filter did not work I couldn't recommend this system to my worst enemy.
Hopefully they've made changes to the filter and addresses the fitment issues.
they have made changes. The new filter is a pleated unit that supposedly filters better and flows better than the foam one, cost: $50. I just ordered one.

This does not make sense. The VR will not cause the injectors to run 100%. The only true solution to a 100% injector is a bigger injector.
Fourms shure have lots of opinions, so here's mine on the vararam. When installing the foam filter put it snugly in the LOWER section then put the cover on. I have seen a beach of s*it against that foam filter and not even any dust in the houseing after the filter. As far as quality of the vararam, people who are not familier with the vette think your running stock, so it's more than fine for me.

Well, I hope you're right. I have a Vararam I'll be buying from a friend (VB2) and I'm already confused about the air filter issue. Let us know how this new/improved filter works for you. I was already thinking about getting the K&N filter, and doing the weatherstrip foam mod, which I'm not quite clear what to use, and what width and what not.
Please post up a review on this if you can. Thanks Goose

Vararam's new filter sounds like a good filter. I have not seen it though. A very well respected air filter company is now making it, but I can not remember the name. Sorry not much help there.
I used the old HP foam filter and did not have any problems. I think if it was also a daily driver I would switch out now. Use the foam filter at the strip and the pleated one for the street.
The foam filter was very high flow. Virtually no resistance. But it was probably not the most efficient filter, but I never had any TB horror stories happen to me.
I recommend the vararam just for the performance gains alone. It really does work quite well. Not easy to install but doable. I had a mechanic help me or I probably would have had fitment issues. But he took his time and it really fit well. After the install we did the pressure test they recommend and it worked. And that was it, no problems after that. Always sealed good. I washed the filter a lot and never had a seal problem.

If you want CAI the one most often mentioned with no build quality or fitment issues is the Callaway Honker. The downside is that it's $490. I've been watching all these threads for some time now and though the Vararam seems to do what it's advertised to do I'd probably save up and go with the Honker if I decide to change my Blackwing out. Just my $.02!

I run the vararam and am very pleased with it. Great seat of the pants increase,,,I have not measured anything though..
If I were to do it again,I would prolly spend the extra bucks for the Honker.
Mainly because it has excellent gains, but more importantly to me,it is c.a.r.b. rated! Therefore legal in Ca. The vararam is technically not, and I did not know this when I bought it
I left the lower intake section of the VR and re-installed my Halltech Stinger. The VR brings fresh air up to the Halltech. Certainly not a ram air but great filtering.
