Local Corvette Guru Is Suggesting The Vararam For My 03 - Zo6 - Presently Stock.also Going To Make Some Computer Upgrades.

I saw tremendous gains when I installed my Vararam. Went from running a 13.0@108.8mph with a home-ported tb and Corsa to running a 12.79@113mph. Both with 2.1 60ft's, in similar weather conditions.
here comes the debate...its all about what you wanna do. A lot like the performance of the vararam, but hate the quality. My install went pretty smoothly, and im happy with mine. Others will say it was a pain in the *** to install and that its cheap plastic. If you dont mind spending an extra hr or so installing it, then you will be happy with this mod. Goodluck.

oh and the foam filters suck, so get the k&n for it or that green filter, dont remember the name for it. I'll be changing the filter to a k&n sometime this summer.

I went with the Vararam and I love the performance it gave my Vette. Go with it, you will love it!
I called Vararam to order a new style "green" filter to replace the foam, and was told that I need to grind or cut off the lip of the lower housing of my VR-1B for the green filter.
DPB: You referenced K&N. Have you got the part #, by chance?
Thanks.
I agree with the fit and finish, it takes a little work. I feel a better response above 70mph then before. Has not been on the dyno so I don't know what the real difference is in HP gain.

Hi Hacksaw -
The VR is probably one of the best performing setups - many swear by them - I have a TRAP on my Z - did not want the VR when I got it and looked at it.
The Vara Ram folks are great with customer service I must add.
Are you going to the strip? Does .1 mean a lot to you in the 1/4 mile?
If not, the good old zip-tie mod is a nice cheap alternative way to open up the intake.
I run a Halltech TRAP on my Z, and a twin ram on my coupe. Happy with both.
My friend had a Vararam and he said it felt much stronger up top. So we went to the dyno and it put out about 5whp more than the bone stock dyno. He took it to the local tuner and found that his injectors were running at 100% duty cycle! The Vararam was taking so much air that the computer couldn't adjust. With a tune he went from 358whp to 377whp.
The Vararam by itself does very well but it's even better when it's tuned.

IMHO, I think that there is a definite gain from the VR. But I tried all different methods to get it to filter properly but did not prevail. I could always find grit on the throttle body. So I invented the Hall-A-Ram. I left the lower intake section of the VR and re-installed my Halltech Stinger. The VR brings fresh air up to the Halltech. Certainly not a ram air but great filtering.
Was thinking about adding it to my 04 Z but now I will. Can someone elaborate on the actual installation of the unit? Problems, tricks, tips, do's & dont's????

cajundude has a nice write up this install. I used it and my install went pretty smooth
I noticed most other air intakes come with a replacement air bridge; however the VR does not, judging from the pictures. What is the reason for this? Would you get more HP if you put a different air bridge in?
I had my VaraRam VR-2B installed by M&T Automotive in Mont Belvieu, Texas (281/576-5100). They did a great job, and did it quickly. If anyone in the Houston area needs help with the install, please give me (or Ted Filer at M&T) a call, and I'll discuss the details.
