Just read mine said 16.0 I know I drive it hard 50% of the time that and I ride on 20" wheels with low pros at 40 psi. I thought I was getting bad mpg but seems like it is average .
Fillup take the mileage and when you fill up again take the mileage, subtract to get the miles driven and divide by the number of gallons used to find your average milage.
I just made a trip to Oklahoma and back (roughly 800 miles each way) and i averaged 31.3 with my cruise set between 75 and 80. The DIC said around 33, but it always reads high. In town i usually get about 22mpg. 6-speed by the way.

40 psi .. no offense .. but you crazy son ..
.. mine stays between 28-32 .. but then again im running 18s .. so i dunno .. 40 just seems like a lot
I just got home from a 325 mile round trip through northwesten Illinois farm country, mostly 2 lane roads, small towns, lights etc. Had the top off all day if that makes a difference. DIC says 26.2, filled the tank before I left and again when I got home at the same station. My calculation comes out to 24.7.
Honestly, I dont care which one is correct! It was a beautiful day, nice drive in an incredible car! 2004 Torch Red Auto Coupe

The two overdrive gears in the six speed tranny makes a world of difference. When you are going 70 mph and only turning about 1600 rpms, good gas mileage follows.
I checked mine traveling to Bowling Green from Louisiana and back 2 years in a row. I did it the old fashion way, recording mileage and gallons pumped, rather than using the car computer. Last year I constantly got 27.5 MPG. This year it was between 27.1 and 27.3 MPG on different tanks. (I maybe drove a little faster this year...) Around town I get between 19 and 22 MPG depending on how much rush hour driving and how much highway driving we do. Even with premium fuel, the C5 is very economical to drive.:thumbs
[QUOTE=IronMedic]hey guys, i did a search and noticed how great the gas mileage is on vettes. how is that so with a 5.7 and a 6.0L block? what does chevy do to make the gas mileage so good on the highway?

The C5 had the one of the lowest wind drag ratio (not sure about the terminology but my source is the NCM film) of any production car when it was built. This undoubtedly contributes to the better mileage. I was very surprised about how good the fuel economy was when I bought my corvette.
Don't forget the torque factor. Due to the torque that the V8 makes it can run all day around 2000 rpm and 75-80 mph and not have to down shift. An engine with low torque (and high HP) will have to be downshifting all the time to keep the speed up and thus dropping the MPG.
