Hmm...I wonder what's wrong with my C5 then? I just took a trip to VT last weekend AVERAGING 89mph....there was some ski bum flying along in a maxima at 100+ so I let him stay about a mile up and just tooled along. After a while I figured I was pushing my luck so I slowed back down to ~75. Average from Portland, CT to White River Jct, VT was 23.2 mpg.
On the way home I set the cruise at 75 and it only got 24mpg. I am running in 6th gear....and the car did have a recent tune up and faulty 02 sensor replaced....
Ony thing I can think of is that my tire pressure is around 29psi...which is a little low but I need to wear the outer edges of the tires more since the middle is pretty worn....
I got 29.9 MPG average according to the DIC driving to Bowling Green last year for Cruise In. I took a picture of it to show people who don't believe Corvettes get great mileage. That was when I still had 2.73 gear though, but it hasn't gone down all that much on highway since I got 3.42 and TC. I run about 2100 RPM instead of 1800 at 70-75
I get better mileage on two lane backroads, even hilly ones, than I do with the cruise control set at 75 on the freeway. I suppose it's because I'm driving slower.
I don't mean to offend anybody but do you all believe what the DIC tells you? How many of you have calculated MPG based on what you put in at the pump?

Any ideas?
When reading your post, the first thing that came to mind was the tire pressure. It's a big deal when it comes to gas mileage. The other thing is Vermont has lots of hills and running at 75..both burn more fuel. imo
Jake, I thought about the hills...but what confused me was how my fuel economy only went up 1 mpg going from 90+ to 75 average....however I didn't reset the avg so maybe that's part of it.
Also, I just started datalogging and I'm adjusting my part throttle (MAF) which already seemed to increase fuel economy just from my trip to work today. Seems that it was running a bit rich (as much as 8%) in the mid range.

After thinking about it for a while. I remembered that 'what goes up must come down'..i.e. This could also apply to the 'hill' statement I made. You went up hills travelling to Vermont but, you drove back down them on the return. So it isn't as big an issue as I first thought. Adjusting the MAF might make some difference. A somewhat lower speed would increase the mileage also. It's fun trying to squeeze mileage out of my vette...sometimes...then there are times when I can't resist the granite foot!
The tune has already netted me a +1 mpg change and looks to be room for more. The Long term fuel trims are still positive. Once I get them closer to zero or slightly negative, I might get back closer to the economy everyone else is getting.
Also, besides terrain there is the "average speed" variable. I think people in flat areas with a nice 15-20 minute highway commute are going to be a lot better off than people like me with 10 min of city driving, then 10 min of highway and then another 5 min of city.
