Default Service ABS and Active Handling

I was idling in traffic today and the ABS and AH tripped out with associated captions. First time its ever happened and it recycled after shutting off the car and restarting.

From previous posts it seems to be due to a temporary voltage drop. Makes sense as I'd sat in traffic at the off ramp for 5 minutes.

I saw Bill Curlees post on the corroded connector and wheel hub sensors. That's not likely to be an issue in Vegas as the climate is dry. My battery is good.

How common is this? Anyone else have this occasionally?

I had the same thing happen to me about 3 months ago. It happened and rest twice about a week apart. The 3rd time it happened it never reset. After checking all grounds and connectors I ended up replacing the EBTCM. I hope this is not your problem because of price unless you still have coverage. Then it might be the best because the other options are sometimes hard to troubleshoot. Start by checking to see if you have any codes still in history. Mine was C1214. If it turns out to be a wheel speed sensor code then check the connectors and grounds per Bill's post.

I hope it was a one time fluke and all is well. Good luck!

that pretty much sums it up...I had the same thing, same code (s) C1214 etc... ended up being the EBTCM or EBMV which was a 2800 repair thank god I was still under OEM warranty

To share a little more info. I got the EBTCM from gmpartsdirect for less than $700 shipped. I consider this a DIY part for just about anyone comfortable changing their own oil. 6 screws and 2 electrical connectors. Takes about 30 minutes to change.

Thanks for the posts guys.

If it could be as bad as the EBTCM I'll keep a very close eye on it.

My GM warranty has expired but I have GMPP. problem is I go back to England at the end of the year and cover doesn't extend to UK. If this is a problem I need to get it fixed before I leave.

I cleaned my connections today & then drove about 40 miles without the ABS lighting up... it normally wouldn't go but about a mile or two without being triggered. You might want to consider & cleaning before spending alot of money. Good luck.

the problem was the brake fluid was low . apparently that triggers these lights to come on .

This worked for me. Lots cheaper to try this first. Even dry climates can produce corrosion, ever so slightly, and thats all it takes.

Just checked my codes and I have a history C1214.

I'll watch it for a while but I think I may be dusting off my GMPP Warranty
