Just remove either one or both of the rear tail lamps, I did the passenger side since thats the most direct route for running the antenna wire up to the dash. The magnetic antenna mounts right onto the steel rear bumper. Just clean a part of the surface area and it will stick there just fine. I drilled a small hole in the rear compartment wall to pass the antenna wire into the rear compartment. Then ran it up behind the compartment carpeting under the rear fenders, behind the passenger front seat carpeted section, down the center tunnel (under the console) all the way up to the front next to the radio/ashtray area. Very simple.
Exactly how I did mine. Took all of maybe 20 minutes. Remember to seal the hole you drill to run the cable through the wall of the tub with some RTV.

OK... getting ready to install my Starmate as outlined in this thread. I'm having a little trouble understanding how you routed the antenna wire from the rear bumper mount to the radio/ashtray area. Did you fish the wire? How do I pull back the carpeting? Pics would be great if anyone has any.
Also where did you hardwire the Starmate? I already used the accessory outlet in the passenger footwell for my radar detector. Can I also add the Starmate to the accessory outlet, or is there a better spot? I want to wire it to a source that's hot only when the ignition is on.
That's really interesting - Thanks for the tip!! I'm getting my Sirius put in the new (to me) Vette on Friday, and I was very clear on not putting it on the OUTSIDE of the car.. The installers suggestion was the front corner of the dash. Black on Black, it would be hidden, but your idea is completely out of site.
So even with the antenna hidden, you have NO reception problems??
You should check the latest financial info on Sirius as well as Stern's recent rant about "his" listeners NOT following him to satellite radio.
That was a quote taken WAY out of context, I'm also a Sirius shareholder and while I have not seen the ridiculous returns I had hoped for, I havent lost my shirt either, they are on an uptick right now...
As for the antenna, I have it mounted on my dash and sometimes have signal problems. I could have sworn it syas it cant be blocked, and putting it inside the bumper seems like it would be???? I dont get it, if it works so crappy on my dash how can it work so well inside a bumper? I have the DEI aftermarket antenna as my original was glued to the back window of my old Trans Am.

My intsall is in the taillight also and the Starmate was first in our 01 Pontaic FireHawk which we traded in on a 06 Dodge Daytona Charger for baby. The Charger had Sirius already so we moved it to the Vette.
Im not sure if its because the Vettes material composition but I get BETTER reception and almost no drop ever....its awesome
