I have put 48000 miles on my 2002 c5 (bought new). The tires are still in great shape...no uneven wear and plenty of tread...really. Is this unusual. The reason I am asking is because I have read so many threads saying that they had to replace their tires at like 19000 miles or less.
Thanks
RonC
I'd be real curious what state you live in. Some states have terrible roads. You must not live in one of them. If you had asked me if it was possible to get almost 50k miles out of a set of factory tires, I would have said "No Way".
From: "This is not a psychotic episode, but a cleansing moment of clarity."
I noticed on a recent thread where someone was talking about their car hitting 100k mi and he printed out a log of repairs, tire changes, etc. I noted at the time in that thread that the runflats lasted much longer than the other tires he replaced them with. Runcraps? I don't think so... That's awesome mileage on a single set of tires.
Actually, I don't find it too unusual. I remember someone posting about six months ago that they got 50K out of a set of OEM runflats. Proper tire inflation and normal unspirited driving will always preserve/extend the life of your tires.
Damn your gonna dry rot them off before you run the treads off. Might i suggest a line lock to help you get that tire wear back into the normal range.
That should help your tire wear "PROBLEM" i think.
If that dont work then just ship them over to me and i will , free of charge mind you, take that rubber off your rims.
thats not normal, your not driving the car the way it was ment to be. seriuosly though if the tires are runcraps them seem to last alot longer than Pilot sports or supercars.
I have on 01 with 17k miles, and although I have not measured the tread depth, they look almost like new. Certainly driving habits and pressure maintenance have a huge effect on tire life. I had mine filled with nitrogen, which will minimize leakage and temperature induced pressure fluctuations, so I expect several more seasons before I need to replace them. That should give me plenty of time to decide what the replacements will be....

I was going to say count yourself lucky but you are obviously driving way too sanely. Also I'll bet your not driving in 110 degree heat that melts them off the rims. I only got about 20k out of my GY's. I actually run a little better on the Michelins. I've got 50k and I'm on the third set on the rear and not far from getting the third on the fronts.

This is a good point. Tire wear can also depend on what your state uses to pave roads. Some road surfaces are more abrasive than others. I also live in Texas and don't think I have ever gotten 50,000 on any set of tires, much less a Corvette.
