Mobil 1 5W30
because I can't readily get Shell Helix Ultra or Forumula Shell Synthetic

Mobile 1 15W50 Its synthetic so why not use the 50?

Whatever the manufacturer recommends on top of the oil filler cap. I figure they know better than I as to what is best for the engine, and for the C5 that would be Mobil 1 5W-30.

I'm glad you took my advice!

I've been running this oil in different vehicles since 2002 with awesome results! I've got the oil analysis results to back it up too, this stuff shows extremely low engine wear, and it works very well at reducing consumption. In fact on my last oil change I went 9000 miles and the level on the dipstick did not go down at all! Most people that are running Mobil 1 5w30 cannot say that.
