Default Grinding sound

Every once in a while I'll make a 180 degree turn and I hear a grinding sound come from the rear of the car. It happens infrequently and Im always doing between 3-5 mph when it happens, to make matters worst I cant tell if its come from the right or left side of the car only because it happens when I least expect it. Its a 2001 with only 9500 miles on it, could a rear wheel bearing be going out this soon?

Thanks

Most likely the clutches in the rear end slipping which is not uncommon at all.

So that grinding sound is perfectly normal and theres nothing I should be concerned about?

I wouldn't worry about it unless it starts making a clunk clunk sound.

Do you have the owner's video/DVD? If you do, the sound is even mentioned as perfectly normal there. I too was extremely concerned when I got my 02 C5 a month ago. The guys here reassured me it was normal, and Glenn burned me the DVD and sent it to me at his cost. What a great guy! I hardly notice the sound anymore! Consider it a little nuance of your pride and joy. Enjoy the C5. Jon

I get this noise when i'm leaving my parking garage from work, or after the car has been sitting for the day and I make turns. I can't tell if it comes from the front or rear. I had the dealer look at it once back when my rear diff was leaking and they fixed that. The sound went away for a while, but it seems to come back when it's hotter outside, not when it's cold.

I'm gonna check the dvd and see what they say in it after reading this post. It's hard to accept this noise is nothing to worry about when it sounds like somethings grinding when you are turning the car!
