Default Do I Have Minor or Major Problem ?

Sorry if this has been discussed earlier as I didn't take the time to scroll thru the past posts.
Today while driving (2000 Coupe) my headlights popped up and I never touched the headlight switch. I started to turn the headlights on and off to try and retracked them but they stayed up...when I finally pulled over and turned the car off, then they reset themselves back down. But once I started the car again, they popped back up...what's going on here? Is it something that I can re-set with the computer myself or do I need to bring it to the drealer for maybe a new motor to run them properly?
Thank you for any advice you can give.

Sounds like you have the Twilight Sentinel option, if that was offered in '00. If it was cloudy enough, they would come on. Check under options on your DIC. Twilight Sentinal. On or off?

OK and if I have this feature ( I think I do) what would I want to set it on? (ON/OFF) Which one would keep them down during the day? Thankx.

Don't feel bad, I did the same thing when I first got my 04 vert. Twilight sensor set to OFF did the trick.

I agree "off" I don't like the extra wear on the gears going up and down.

Here ya go.

From the Manual:

Twilight Sentinel Automatic Lamp
Control (Optional in United States,
Standard in Canada)
Twilight Sentinel can turn your lamps on and off for you.
A light sensor on top of the instrument panel makes the
Twilight Sentinel work, so be sure it isn’t covered.
You can customize your vehicle to turn Twilight
Sentinel on or off (except for vehicles first sold in
Canada). See “Driver Information Center (DIC)” in
the Index to turn this feature on or off.
When Twilight Sentinel is turned on, you will see the
following happen:
When it’s dark enough outside, the front turn signal
lamps (DRL) will go off, and the headlamps and
parking lamps will come on. The other lamps that
come on with headlamps will also come on.
When it’s bright enough outside, the headlamps
will go off, and the front turn signal lamps (DRL)
will come on, as long as the exterior lamp switch is
in the OFF position.
With Twilight Sentinel turned on, you can idle the
vehicle with the lamps off, even when it’s dark outside.
First set the parking brake while the ignition is in OFF.
Then start the vehicle. The lamps will stay off until you
release the parking brake.
Twilight Sentinel also provides exterior illumination as
you leave the vehicle. If Twilight Sentinel has turned on
the lamps when you turn off the ignition, your lamps
will remain on until:
The exterior lamp switch is moved from OFF to
the parking lamp position, or
a delay time that you select has elapsed.
See “Driver Information Center (DIC)” in the Index to
select the delay time that you want. You can also select
no delay time.
If you turn off the ignition with the exterior lamp switch
in the parking lamp or headlamp position, the Twilight
Sentinel delay will not occur. The lamps will turn off as
soon as the switch is turned off.
As with any vehicle, you should turn on the regular
headlamp system when you need it.

If you don't have an owner's manual, it would be worth your time & $$ to get one. They show up frequently on eBay. I got a manual and video for about $30.

I personally like the twilight sentinal feature. I have it on my 05 trailblazer as well. I never have to worry about remembering to turn my lights on. My F150 on the other hand got me pulled over a month ago. I was pulling out of a club late at night on a VERY well lit street. It was so well lit that I never realized my lights weren't on. Since I had nothing to drink, the cop and I had a nice laugh about it

I've got my set to off as I don't want them coming on when I pull into the garage if I don't turn the car off quick enough.
