Tonight I went out to the car and found a chip in my windshield ,down by the Hud, Question! Can it repaired with a patch kit ? rather than having a new windshield put in and risk having it notput in right and possible leaks etc.?? I'm calling my insurance company tomorrow, have comprehensive insurance. thanks in advance!!
Yes, I have fixed many myself with kits. However, most insurance companies will pay to have chips fixed, it beats replacing the windshield. By the way, a C5 windshield is one of the most difficult ones to do, they often do leak. Most glass fix places will come by your house or work to fix them.
I had a chip in my windshield and had a well know glass company here look at it to see if it could be fixed and they said yes not problem then about 5 min later the man comes back and said you will need a windshield it just spilt from one side to the other. I would not have the chip fixed if it was me.
Check with your insurance co. Most of them will pay to have the chip repaired rather than have a comp. claim. It usually runs $25-35. I have seen the price as low as $10.
I got a chip in the upper left hand section of the window while on a road trip. I found a glass shop and got it repaired immed. My advice is to give it a try. If it doesn't work, you can then do a full replacement. Depending on how and where you drive, you'll most likely be getting more.
see if you can get it fixed. I have done the at home repair you can get at auto zone and it worked great. I have done it on 3 cars and you cant even see where the chip was

Yes, it can be fixed. Done right, you will hardly notice that the chip was even there. And, if your insurance company has a policy like mine, they will repair it and waive the deductible. Good luck.
I had one fixed. The repair company came to my place of work ready to replace my windshield, pre-approved by my insurance carrier. Once they looked at the ding they said that they could repair it rather than replace the windshield. I made a deal with them that they could try the repair and if I wasn't happy they would go ahead and replace the windshield. I figured I had nothing to lose.
The repair consists of a diamond drill which they drill out the top layer of the windshield (the windshield is two pieces of safety glass and a thin layer of a vinyl or the like in between). Once they drill the top layer they mix a two part clear epoxy and using a little pump they attach to the windshield which heats and pressure injects the epoxy into the hole. When they are done they trim off the excess on the surface and voila, looked good as new. If you didn't know where to look you'd never see it. My chip was about the size of a dime right in the center of the windshield.....I took a rock strike on the highway.
As everyone else has said, do the injection repair. My insurer paid the full cost for the repair because they saved a ton of money. My chip was low over on the passenger side. While the repair is guaranteed, and only took 40 minutes start-to-finish, there is a blemish that looks like a small waterspot. But with the other nicks, sand pits and scratches on the windshield, it doesn't bother me.
