I did a search for "GMPP Prices" and read everything that turned up. Lots of discussion about the GMPP, but not a lot of prices...
I have an '03 Coupe with 18k miles that is out of factory warranty. I have spoken with my local dealer who said that with an inspection and oil change ($200 total) they can sell me a GMPP. This is not a point for discussion, they said they can do it.
They are quoting me $1738. He told me their cost was $1538 and they need to make a couple hundred profit. That puts my total at just under $2k for a 4 yr/32k GMPP.
Does anyone have a sense for whether they're BSing me on the price? I've learned never to trust these guys at their word, but have no real way of confirming what he's telling me.

I would give Dennis Fitchner a call on your GMPP questions. They have the best prices, and they are great to deal with. Here's a link to one of his recent posts on this subject.....
You need to post if your vehicel is still under GM warranty as of right now, and what type of deductible did he quoted you. Your choices would be Zero, $100 or $200 per visit. Let me know that and I'll tell you what the policy cost is.

Retail for this warranty of 48 Month or 32,000 Miles with Zero deductible is $1400 and dealer has a $500 of profit built in to it. If your vehicle is still under the 3Yr/36,000 Warranty, you won't need any type of pre inspection.

As the original post states, the vehicle is out of factory warranty.
I appreciate all the suggestions to call Fitchner, but as my original post stated the vehicle is out of factory warranty, so Fitchner is not an option.

I guess the big question is how would Fichtner inspect the car if this guy is half way across the country. Can he have it inspected by a local GM dealer and still buy the warranty from Fichtner?

Fichtner will NOT sell you a warranty for a car that is out of the warranty period. So, there is not inspection required.
For cars within the warranty period, you just have to call up to get the warranty.
Personally, I don't understand how you are able to get a GMPP when your car is out of warranty, but good luck with it.

The way you get it is to go to your local Chevy dealer and say "Can I get a GMPP when my car is out of warranty?" They say something like "I'll check into it and get back to you." When they get back to you they say "Yep, we just need to inspect the vehicle first. That'll cost about $200."
I suspect there are several reasons why people think this just isn't possible.
a) Some dealerships don't want to hassle with the inspection process, so they "just say no."
b) Rules vary from state to state.
c) There is a lot of 'common wisdom' out there that isn't common or wise. Perhaps the rules changed at some point and many dealerships simply aren't up to date on what can and cannot be done.
Back to the topic at hand. For s#!ts and giggles I got a Warranty Direct quote as well. Their comparable package would be $1600 ($100 inspection required, doesn't include oil change).
So the GMPP price actually doesn't seem all that out of line.
