Absolutely nothing wrong with the '97s. For a first year of a modle change, they seem to be pretty decent. Many of the problems they have experienced showed up in later year cars too.

I've got 97K on my 97. Doesn't burn a drop of oil and bone stock dynoed at 295 RWHP. I've seen dyno numbers on newer ones that didn't hit that.

With headers and a couple of small mods now at 315 RWHP.

LUV that 97

Be easy on the guy. I haven't had much for problems with my 97. I can't say anything bad about it yet.

there is nothing wrong with the 97 , we own the pioneer C5 , and that's a great thing IMO.
I've owned mine for 2 years , 93K on the clock , and have never had to fix anything , it's all been MOD money spent , a lot of money , but hey that's what makes it personalized

My wifes ''97'' has been a great car so far! She has had it for 10 months and no problems in 14000 miles shes put on it. We have had 8 c-4s before the c5 and this is the best vette ever. Trouble is she drives it so much I hardly ever get a chance!!!Oh well, my old coupe is still faster even if it does ride like a buckboard.

I would rather own the first year c5 (which I do) than the first year c6 (I bought a 2006). 2005 C6 had its share of issues like pulley problem, delaminating painted roofs, repeat dead batteries on MN6 etc...just my opinion, but I think they made an extra effort to bring the 97 to market without allot of the first year problems on previous generations. A little surprised the 2005 c6 wasn't a little tighter...just my 2 cents

Not that I really care, but, using all caps is thought of as yelling/screaming. Maybe if you turn off the caps lock you'll get less flack?

just turned 74K on my Torch Red 97 and it has been the BEST vette and car I have owned! I love the fact its the first C5 - its beautiful, and if it didn't have the wagon wheels on it- you would mistake it for a newer year! I get compliments on her all the time...most can't believe its a 97 though! its just that awesome!

A C5 is pretty much a C5 be it a 1997 or a 2004 model. The '97 model had the smallest production run since 1959. It's just as much a C5 as any.

Very interesting observation on the initial build issues on the C6.
