I talk about my '97 A4 C5..58K on the clock no major issuses. Have done nice MODS to it. Taking it in for headers, LS6 intake, underdrive pulley and a cam.Diff change from a 2:73 to a 3:15
Have the Blackhawk air filter, 160 stat, back of fog lights cut out for more air, hi-flo cats, X-pipe and ZO6 Ti cat back exhaust..so there you go on a '97

From everything I've heard and read, there haven't been any significant issues pertaining to the 97s -- they seem every bit as solid as the 98s and 99s. Ther were just fewer of them; 10000 or so, if I recall correctly. Maybe that's why you don't hear so many people talk about the 97s specifically.

My guess would be that they didn't produce as many in the first year.

edit- rcs128 was a bit faster than me @ the keyboard

The poor original poster is getting , and probably rightfully so, but I thought we were a classier bunch than that. Is this why a lot of people see us Vette owners as snobs? I know they're just jealous, but still...

Why are you yelling? The '97's are a very reliable first year car.

There are just fewer of them ! No problems with the first year model C5s, engineering was great !

We just don't like having to re-read a paragraph 3 times to figure out what the hell you are asking.

No, my 97 is great. I love it more each time I drive it. If I could just find out how to have sex with it I would boot the wife out and live happily ever after!

I am usually very concerned about a first year especially when the new model year contains so many new changes (new frame, new engine and new body design all in one year) from the previous ones. I think they got the 97 right.
