Be glad you caught it, and I caught mine at about 30MPH and dam near tore my arm off! I have heard of some who did not catch it and it really bent up the frame bad enough to have to be replaced!
This happened to me a few days ago, but it was NOT my bad. It had been at the dealer for an inspection prior to purchasing a GMPP Major Guard warranty and they forgot to secure it. Suppose they would have covered any damage from leaving it unlatched? Doubt it!

Do you drive with your windows down and top up? I've seen this happen from the tonneau cover flapping with the windows down over a period of time... I don't see how the top flapping up would do this?

There's a service bulletin about some bolt in the top assembly that can be adjusted to stop the paint rubbing. I've got a small area like the one shown above on just the driver's side where the paint has worn off. I'm going to mention it to my dealer the next time I go in for service and see what they suggest.
