Default The day has come

Well after some time of dreading, my 16 year old son finally moved form the passenger seat of our 02 vert to the driver seat. I took him out for his first cruise. He took to it amazingly well. We took a 3 hour cruise around the backroads. I have a manual transmission and I was impressed. To those who may think a 16 year old shouldn't be driving a vette, it's only because he proved himself in our other cars. Sorry if this took anyone's time, but was just excited.

That's very, very cool. I remember the first night I brought my 'Vette home, I tossed the keys to my oldest son and told him to take his younger brother for a spin around the block. My son's a bit older than yours -- 21 -- and he has more than earned my trust after 5 years of pretty flawless driving.

The following week, I handed the keys to my 17-year-old daughter and let her drive me around for awhile. Now both my sons and daughter want a 'Vette, too, eventually.

Here's to a cool Dad.

know what you mean . My son is 17 , and had beeen driving my vette on and off . He is a good driver . well this week we bought him his own 99 coupe , 2 Vettes in the house now , the world is a great place to live in
He is a new member here as well USSVETTE . He is tickled silly , although his car has not been delivered yet . it might be a few more days to work its way from Oklahoma to Tennessee

Don't forget---16 year olds drive and behave one way when they're w/ mom or dad. When they're w/ their 16 year old buddy, they're different people. Add a Corvette into the formula and you have an accident waiting to happen.

The scary day is when you hand the keys over, say be careful and watch the Vette drive off down the road

i'm in the conservative camp as well. the math on this one (16 y/o driver + c5 corvette) is conservatively & statistically headed for tragedy. good luck.......you're going to need it. bub
