Default Help with Exhaust Install

So I got my corsas yesterday:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...0&forum_id=103

Well I went out to the garage this morning (where its 30°), put the rear on ramps (just so i could get under it), and started taking the flange bolts out. I got two of them out but the other two look like they became part of the weld of the flange?????? WTH? Is this just corrosion that spread between the weld and bolt head or did it truly become part of the weld? Seems like the flange should be welded and then bolted up later...not the opposite...

I plan to get everything un-bolted. Then jack it up the full amount to get it out of there (without cutting). Were yours like this? Thanks!

Edit: I think this is prolly what happened...those flanges are known to break. The flanges probably broke, the original owner took it back to a muffler shop where the muffler shop or stealership proceeded to add metal and added too much around the bolts...

You should still be able to get the nut off the other side. You can hack saw the bolt off if you need to

If it is the stock H-pipe it should be threaded, no nut on the back side. Be careful that you don't break it off. I would use a lot of penetrating oil and let it sit for a while. If it still won't come loose try a little heat.

It is the stock H-pipe so it is threaded. No nut. Might break out the hack saw...

Normally, the bolts are not welded.

Hopefully yours has not been mod'd and what you are seeing is the bolt head rusting into oblivion. But even more hopeful is that you can get that bolt out without a major hassle.

Good luck.

Excellent pictures to illustrate what you're up against. Can you get a Dremel tool in there if need be? I plan on swapping out my stock exhaust for a Z06 Ti setup in the next few weeks. I sure hope I don't run into anything like this...

You might want to try spraying it with some penetrating oil nd let it sit overnight. Really soak it down. If that does not work, I suggest you simply go out and purchase an X Pipe and cut the old H pipe off after measuring for the new X Pipe. You might save yourself a lot of headaces and get another couple HP out of the deal. Good Luck with it.

Well...heres the works...as i stated before, i think someone rewelded that area and in the process, welded over the bolts. Freakin' awesome!

So my next step was going to be dremel that baby...but when i looked up there, its right next to my fuel filter, which was incidently leaking! Even more awesome! I mean i like flame paint jobs, but i do not like real flames...so...I went and got a new fuel filter and I just changed that out. Gave it a few cycles, checked for leaks, took it for a 5 minute drive, checked for leaks. Good to go! SO now im letting it air out...
