im sittin in the parkin lot waiting on my girlfriend to get off for lunch so we could go grab a bite to eat (i got my 97 about a week ago, and the pass side window hasnt worked) i hit both buttons on the drivers side and magicly it goes down ..and immediatly im thinking ...damn it now it for sure isnt going to go back up, sure enough, it worked untill i re-parked the car 20 minutes later, went in, ate, came back out....went to roll it back down nothing ..tryed the both buttons trick, nothing, up on drivers down on pass, still nothing...if i hit the button i hear clicking on the pass. side so im not sure what exactly that is, but any info apreciated...if one switch is bad will the window not roll down at all?
I had the same experience with my 97 too about 4-5 months ago.Just try to close the doors hard.I ve done it and it worked since then no problem.I don`t know, that my help.Good luck.
Appearently there is a relay that sometimes sticks, banging the door frees it. Someone posted a solution a while ago, he took out relay and sanded contacts. For me, taking the door apart is not fun and reason enough to buy a new relay.
If giving it a good whack doesn't work, you may have to take the interior door panel off to see what the problem is. Just be careful and don't force it incase you miss a hidden screw. Also, a good auto glass company may be able to help you at less of a cost than a dealership can. Good Luck!
If the scissor shackle is binding the motor can't overcome the friction so it doesn't move. I had a similar problem at first. I just gave the whole assembly a good dose of silicon lubricant and it now works a treat.
Best thing is to pull the door panel and take a look to see if its binding.
All that said, it could indeed be a duff motor. The symptoms would probably be the same.
when you take all the screws out of the door panel does it slide up and off or away from the car and off? or is it pretty much just about to flop off w/ all the screws out? the last door panel i had to take off was pretty tricky and i was gonna wait n let my dad do it if this has alot of the little clips holding it in place, but if it isnt difficult i will probably pull it off n see if im going to need a new motor or just fix the relay
Give the doorpanel (over the regulator) a good whack while you're holding the up button. Worked for me and haven't had a problem since!
If the window is not used often, corrosion on the relay points prevents motor from running. Wacking the doorpanel often frees it up. Once it begins to work, just lower and raise the window every couple of days - it should be fine unless there actually is a component failure.

Go to Vette Essentials web site - they have excellent instructions on removing all interior pieces.
I think wacking the centre of the door panel is a temporary solution even if it does work... I had to replace the motor/track/cable assembly due to a broken plastic guide which caused binding of the cable. The motors are very durable looking and strong, should last a good long time. The assembly including new motor/regulator was about $180 and not that difficult to install and adjust.

The window glass is clamped to the unit and easily adjusted to fit snug.
