What is the VIN code for the 3.15's gears on the C5s? Where does it begin and end the the VIN?

It's not in the VIN. It's on the RPO (Regular Production Option) sticker that's probably on your glove box door. The code is G92.

I am suprised it's not there
It should be a sticker on the inside of the glove box door.

Check under one of the rear side cargo compartment lids. Now that I see your screen name, I surmise that you have a red 98 with an A4

That explains it. My 00 is in the glove box, I had no idea it changed between 98 and 00. Boy do I feel stupid.

Don't feel stupid - how would you have known that? I know that because I have a '98.

Just go stick your head under the butt of the car and get a flash light, that's the best way IMO.

Enough of a difference that it was a "must have" option for me when I bought mine. YMMV.

Let's put it this way: the later model C5 A4 cars have 1/4 mile times comparable to the earlier C5 with a M6 transmission. Remember, the later C5 had adjustments to the HP and torque curve that meant the 3:15 rear axle on the A4 really RIPS!!!
