Default why do we??

ask if " others" like BSM's, certain rims and such..?

why do we ask what color is prefered?

why do a lot of owners feel that thier car has to be like others...that if they think and act out of the so called "box" ,, that it is a mortal sin...?

I know I have my own opinion,,,but if we all drove the same looking, same optioned cars.. what fun would that be.

I figure on items like BSM's, rims, and so forth,, heck,,,If YOU like it,,, do it...screw what MR. opinion says..

I can understand wanting info on brakes, shocks, ,,the go fast stuff..

Do you need your floor mats to match your shoes???
( I do like the carpet to match the curtains, lol)

I guess I see a lot of guys asking "does this look good"....why buy if YOU dont really like it....then sell it cause your buddy does a few times.....Now I have seen certain cars that are way over the top..but hey,,,,if the owner likes it,,,leave him teh **** alone

I agree 100% that if you like something, it doesn't matter what others think.

But there is a bit of human nature that people want to be accepted - right or wrong.

I think it is more about enjoying the bonding experience that asking for validation about which mods to go with.

I think each of us - no matter how much we claim to want to please ourselves, also wants validation and approval. Personally I consider it a high compliment when a fellow Vette owner gives unsolicited praise for something that I did or bought and installed. Call it human nature - but I call it acceptance.

We each have our own opinions, as demonstrated by our individual choices. The conflict arises when we we try to inflict our unwelcomed opinions, or contrary opinions.

If this forum was limited to discussions on how to make the car go faster only, or how to improve performance, it wouldn't be "General". I prefer to spend my time here as opposed to the FI Forum, or the Tech Forum - because of the nature of the discussions and topics.

We do it so our Vettes don't end up with Giant Wings, 20" spinners, and flashy gold vynal interiors with rhinestones everywhere.

Because of that I'd rather people come on and ask and get 60% YES/40% NO and do the mod

and...

0% yes/110% NO(!) and don't do the mod.

I think it's just for the sense of community amongst us all. I mean, we all know what we like and don't like, and we all know what we want to do to our Corvettes. So when a post like "Should I remove the BSM's from my car?" comes up, the author is really just looking for a few people to push him over the edge into actually doing it.

If I am on the fence about something (50/50) then I will ask. If there is a big tilt in one direction, I will follow it. Why not do what the people like if you really don't care one way or the other?

It's my car, so I'll mod, customize, hotrod it, whateve,r as I please. If you like the results, great! If you don't, not my problem. As the old saying goes, "Lead, follow, or get out of the way!".
