When a car is lowered, assuming on stock bolts, are there any alignment issues or handling concerns that should be addressed? Is tire wear an issue? Lastly, is there a way to measure if a car has been lowered?
you definatly need an alignment when you lower because if you dont your tires will wear on the inside. handling will be a little better and a little tighter, but ride doesnt change very much, you can measure from the ground to the bottom of your fender on all four tires before and after to see how much it dropped.
It cost me $$$ for an alignment and the guy who did it said it was a "jugement" call... he did some "tweaking" but there was no serious problem driving it the way it sat... even with it being lowered on stock bolts ! It's better to have it checked, but I was suprised to hear of only a minor-adjustment being needed ! ... BUT, it still cost me $$$$.... no free-rides here ! (It was in almost perfect alignment before the lowering, I had the tires examined before I had my new ones installed !)
does $$$ represent? Call me stupid, but I missed the part where $ = X dollars. Seriously though, how much Alignment shops charge would be a good thing to know. Maybe someone near you charges a lot less for the same job. I would like to know who, in Central Jersey, does a proper alignment at a reasonable price.
Thanks for input. It would be helpful to the know the cost of a good alignment. Is there a way to measure if a car has been lowered. I suspect that a car I'am looking at is lowered, but the owner says it hasn't been. Just would like to check.
Alignment prices vary from place to place. Also some shops have different equipment than others. I suggest you call around in your area to get quotes. Be sure and ask if they have done C5s. In my case when I lowered it on stock bolts it did not need re-aligning.

I had mine done at the dealership after driving about 200 miles with it lowered. It was just a bit out of alignment. They said the tires would have worn quickly the way it was. The alignment cost 79.00. I took my 2x6 peices of wood so they could drive it onto the alignment machine, but they had their own boards to use.

Had trouble getting car on rack, finally found a place that could get it on. Best bet, look for a drive on, i.e. lowered pit alignment setup, there are two places in Bham that have the pit type.
I lowered mine on the stock bolts a few weeks ago, and had it aligned at a local firestone shop. Price was $70 or $148 for lifetime alignment. I went for the $148, figuring it will need alignment at least once more as long as I own it.
All your comments are greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Hi jet2vettes -
I recommend having the alignment checked. Wit hte cost of the tires on these babies, that is money well spent.
Figure on ~$100, commensurate on the amount of adjustment that has to be done....
To see if your car has been lowered, look under the back-end of the car on one side or the other. Locate the rear lowering bolts and see if the nut is at the top of the bolt (what would be the end of the threaded end - upward from the ground...).
If there is very little of the threads showing on the top side of the nut, then the car has been adjusted down.
