I would like to get a dash letter kit (for the airbag) but can't find any in pewter. Has anyone tried getting white then painting them with touch-up paint? I'd like the lettering to match the exterior color.
Can't you just paint the recessed area of the letters on the dash? I thought I remembered seeing a few people do that with pretty good success.
I did it because I couldn't find Firethorn Red. Just get the color of choice and a small artist brush. Use a steady hand and go for it. It is easy to stay inside the lines. I used water based paint for easy cleanup.

I tried painting directly into the letters. I used the standard GM Mag Red touch up paint
It looked good for a few weeks and then peeled. I had to take it off
Dont know if the paint didn't like the plastic surface or if it was the Vegas summer heat
I think you will have better luck with the water based paint. Mine has been there 2 years and no problems. Of course we don't get the heat like you do. We only have snow 300 days a year here. The rest are cloudy and damp.

Had to laugh when I saw your response. Back in the '80s I spent a summer in Buffalo. It lasted from Friday nite until Sunday morning.
Be really, really patient when putting the letters on... and best not to do it after having a few. I used a tweezers to hold the letters with and a toothpick to manipulate them as needed. Oh, and be sure to follow their instructions as far as prepping (I think denatured alcohol and something else).... my first set didn't stick - had to order a second.

I have that good prep is the trick with any of this stuff. If you take your time to prep the areas correctly, you shouldn't have a problem the stuff peeling off.
