You just have to male sure that the number on the back matches the number on your other fob.

You can buy replacement keys from Ecklers, or Ebay - whereever you find the best price. You have to know the VATS code on the key. That's the little black chip. You will need a digital volt/ohm meter. You will have to read the resistance on both sides of the chip to determine which one you need. Then reference this list....
. VATS key codes
You need to read the resistance of the key. If you have a digital volt meter, set it on ohms mode and measure the resistance of the pellet on your key. Do a search on the web for "VATS" or "PASS-Key" for an explanation. The BCM is programmed for a specific resistance value. The BCM measures the voltage drop across the key pellet. If it is within +-10%, then the car will start.
The 15 resistor codes are:
Key# Value (Ohms)
1 392
2 523
3 681
4 887
5 1130
6 1470
7 1870
8 2370
9 3010
10 3740
11 4750
12 6040
13 7500
14 9530
15 11800
As far as the getting the key cut - once you have the right chipped blank, anyone capable of performing a two sided cut can cut the key.
For the fob - just make sure that one you buy matches the numbers found on the back side. They are NOT all the same. If you car is a later model - you will also have a 1 or a 2 on the back. You'll need to match that number with the one that you lost - as it corresponds to the memory position 1 or 2.
You should be able to do the whole thing on Ebay for under $50....

Sorry - but I have to disagree. You pay $132 for the CorvetteKey thingy, and it doesn't come with the circuit board for the fob - you have to provide that or I they will sell you one for $15 on an 01-04. You also have to still get the key cut....
I still maintain that you could get the whole deal for half on Ebay...
I had to buy a #2 fob for 03 and it only cost me 45 bucks from the stealership as referred to here on the forum. As for the key I have no idea what that costs.

Just ordered a fob for $21.44 but I still need a key. I appreciate Blacksedan's reply but sounds awfully technical and I don't have a digital meter. So what's another option, has anyone just ordered one from the dealer and how much?

I already ordered a fob so how much is a key and do they have to be programmed with that chip in it? Thanks
No programming necessary but you will need to know what the Vats# is for your Corvette. It will be a number between 2-15 (i.e. 3,6,7,14... one of them).
Doug,
If you get your key form the dealer, they can tell which one you need by reading the chip on your other key, which they will need anyway in order to cut your new key. Did you lose your fob & key on Sunday at the show? Maybe someone found it and turned it in to Bob Bell.
