I had read past threads that led me to believe that by having burned copies in my 12 CD changer that it might not read them and show ERR.
Believing that, I put in 12 originals - YES, the REAL things!
Well, guess what? Only the first 3 played, then went back to #1!!!
The original changer on my 2001 played anything and everything, perfectly, every time..... UNTIL... one day I hit next disc, and got ERR. I tried to eject the cartridge, and nothing came out. Of course, all the "pros" on the forum said "quit using recorded CDs." Well, after taking apart the whole changer to get the cartridge out, I found that disc #11 was the jambing culprit. Guess what? ..... original, store-bought music CD (Styx Greatest Hits, if I recall correctly). Changer was dead after that.
Bought a replacement Bose/Pioneer off eBay (from another 2001 Vette). It had a Mfg. Date a few months earlier than my original. Even though the mounting bolt pattern was slightly different, I was able to mount it solid enough with five of the six bolts (changer to bracket). It "almost worked satisfactorily. Problem was, it skipped or studdered when riding over any tiny pebble or crack in the road surface.
What I use now is a 2 GB iPod Nano connected to the original rear hatch changer cable through the Peripheral iPod2car adapter --- controlled by the standard Bose head unit (radio). No more skips. Lots more music. System is even charged by the car.
No suggestions, just to say that I burn CD's and they play in my 01 12 disc changer without a problem.
I don't know if it makes a difference, I never burn them at a high speed. The burner is 48X but 8 or even 4 is fine by me. That's with one gig of RAM too!! I use Roxio to burn my CD's.

So, what's up with that? Any suggestions?
I have a 12 CD changer in the back of my 99 FRC.. One night, after parking it in the garage, the damned thing got stuck trying to change the CD. I did not notice this until the next morning and guess what, no battery. Anyway, I took it out and lifted the cover of the changer. There were little, and I do mean little, screws and springs every where. Being the adventurous type, I took it to the kitchen table and started to put things back together. Fortunately, when I finished, there were no left over parts. I stuck it back in the car and it has worked like a charm ever since. I think that when you try to change the CD too fast, the mechanical parts can't keep up with your punching the buttons. Something has to give. In my case, I think a spring came loose and that started the domino effect. Also, I was just damned lucky to get it back together. Next time this happens, I will take the changer to a shop.
My Factory GM original 12 disc changer played everything I ever burned, but wouldn't play MP3's. Purchased a Premier 10 disc changer ($279, came with everything) that played regular & MP3's, burned both (different CD for each format) and it plays both. Hardest part of install was fashioning the bracket (not really that bad). Plug & play. Now have thousands of songs available. I burn CD's on a 4 year old Mac with a LaCie 12X speed external burner that is also 4 years old.
Well I found out my problem. I was out messing around with the disc changer again and I noticed the very edge of a cd poking out of the area where the cd's are fed into once inside the changer. I managed to wiggle the cd out, an unburned Sheryl Crow cd from the previous owner all chewed up. (I just bought the car)
Mine is picky as heck. It will not play burned CDs. It does play original ones good but only after I discovered the correct way to insert them and it seems that if I don't start at the bottom and fill the cartridge from bottom to top then it acts up. Overall I think it is a very crapy piece of equipment. You might try reloading them in a different order?
The only thing I can offer you is... Mine is picky about burned CD's, it doesn't like them in slot 1 or 12. But whenever I eject the cartridge, sometimes I have to re-install it a few times before it'll work again, but once it does, it's good to go. Try installing it over and over until you can read disk 4. Good luck.
PS. Have you tried the disks in different orders too? Just a thought.
I cannot get my cd changer to even play a cd. It is like the radio don't even know the cd player is presnent. I can hear it moving the cd's and It will eject just fine. When I push the aux. button it don't light up or change from the radio. Any help would be great! How do I check to see if it is even the right player for the radio?
mine just decided to stop working, Wednesday no problem, today, nothing, the cartridge would not even come out of the changer , when hitting the AUX key the radio acts as if the changer isn't there, I bought a new delco changer off ebay I will swap the changer and see if this fixes the issue.
