So i bought my car 2 weeks ago.. The oil life was at 50% when I bought it and as of yesterday was as low as 48%. I decided to do an oil change. I bought some mobil 1 and ac/delco filter... Because of how steep my ramps are I took my car to walmart.. I gave them the oil and the filter... 5 mins later done.. I get back in my car and expect to see 100% and it's 38% Now I need an answer..

Obviously - the oil life monitor was not reset. You can reset it yourself by turning the car on (not running ignition on) bringing up oil life on the DIC and hitting RESET. The system does not reset itself just because you changed the oil.....
You can allow your oil life to get down to Zero,,,,,,
The oil life monitor is very smart when it comes to calculating when your oil needs to be changed....
You might want to start by reading your owner's manual. That way not only will you know how to reset your oil life monitor, you'll also know when you should be changing your oil as well as the learning about the usage of all the other ***** and buttons on the car.
If you didn't get the owner's manual, you can get one online at www.mygmlink.com

It sounds like they just did not reset the oil life monitor on the car. Seems strange though that it dropped 10% points in a day (provided you really meant to say it was at 38% after the oil change).

You can also reset the oil life by pumping the gas pedal 3 times - but not with the engine running.
The oil life monitor is only a guide...stick to the recommended oil change intervals (if you think the 15,000/1 yr is too extreme, then change it every 6 months or every 10K miles)...the other thing to keep in mind is that the oil monitor is unable to calculate (add % to your oil life) in the event you have to add oil. A lot of 2001 C5s have to add oil just after 5-600 miles...so the monitor is useless...use an interval that makes sense to you and your style of driving (but don't exceed one year)...
You may need to hold last pump for 5 to 10 seconds. For some reason when I try it from the DIC it just goes right back to were it was next time I start it so I use the pump the gas pedal method. When I first heard of it I thought people on here were kidding.
