I didn't even get a brass gear when my driver's motor went bad. I just rotated the stock plastic gear 90 degrees to put the bad teeth in an "un-used" position, and reassembled the motor. I figured it was free, and if it happens again in 40K miles, I'll get another plastic gear.

For some reason, I'm scared that a brass gear might cause a complete failure if the worm gear jams. I'd rather have the plastic teeth "forgive" an operational error.

But, maybe I'm too ****, and I'm worrying for nothing, if headlight motors are cheap to begin with. Somehow I doubt that, because even floor mats cost twice is much for a vette than they do for other Chevys.

Turned that annoying feature off the day I bought the car.

I don't think I've manually turned my lights on since 2003.

Sorry, this one made me laugh a little... following this line of reasoning our cars surely wouldn't be capable of 170MPH.

Of course driving lights are best used with headlights. Although the lights on our cars stock are so bad that with good driving lights it's hard to tell if the headlights are even working.

As for driving with just fogs (the stockers) at night in fog... I'd keep it under 20. If the fog is so bad that the glare from properly adjusted low beams is blinding, it's too foggy to drive.

2) Dependencies are irrelevant. High beams and low beams BOTH shine higher, thus, BOTH cause undesirable reflection.

3) Duh, fog lamps and driving lamps are different. Fogs are low-powered and meant to reduce reflection off the fog.

4) If it was completely illegal to drive with only fog lights, the car manufacturer would not have made it possible to drive with only fogs.

And, FWIW, some laws are allowed to be broken. For example, you can break a traffic law when it's safer to NOT adhere to the regulation. For example, while you would normally get a ticket for driving down the shoulder of the freeway, if there was too much water from a heavy downpour in the normal lanes of traffic, you can be excused for driving on the shoulder. Similarly, you can get a ticket for driving 55mph in a 55mph zone if fog is so heavy that that speed is deemed unsafe for the conditions. The same holds true for fog lights. Typically, it is unsafe to run only fog lights at night because other drivers may not be able to see you well, due to fog lights being low-powered. However, if it's safer to run only fog lights, as might be the case in heavy fog, you can be excused.

Driving lights, on the other hand, are designed to assist in normal night driving, and are meant to be used in conjunction with low beams. In most states, it is illegal to drive with only driving lights. They MUST be used together with headlights. But, this is a moot point on this thread, because Vettes don't come with driving lights, and nobody was talking about driving lights.

Apparently.
OK, so you're arguing all points at once now. And, yes, it seems I have driven a lot more in fog than you. But have fun anyway.

I think you're taking this out of context. There are DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations that concern vehicle lighting.

Of course driving lights are best used with headlights.
Hey don't flame me on this one. Somebody else posted something on this, so I was just correcting the incorrect posting.

No argument here!

As for driving with just fogs (the stockers) at night in fog... I'd keep it under 20.
And, with the denseness of the fog we sometimes get, you're smarter to go even slower than that, if in fact you even choose to try driving in it! Some people just pull off the road and wait it out.

If the fog is so bad that the glare from properly adjusted low beams is blinding, it's too foggy to drive.
Uh... I have to disagree with you here. Heavy fog is MUCH easier to drive in with only fogs on, although that's not saying it's a breeze to drive in it with only fogs. But, I've driven in all kinds of fog in different parts of the world, and if you keep your headlights on, I've found you can't see anything in front of you except the fog. However, I've also found that if you run only fogs, you can at least crawl through the fog.

back at ya!

Don't use it. The garage door opener light comes on which lights up the garage.

I don't drive at night...

Besides, when the lights are up, there is so much drag ,that it's not even like driving a Vette.

Of course, I'm arguing all points, cause you were plain wrong. And, how do YOU know you've driven in more fog than me? Who cares anyway?

All I know is I know what works and what doesn't, what is legal, and what is illegal.

I didn't bring all this up... you did. I was just stating what factory options I like to use as a point of reference to the original poster of this thread who asked whether or not I used the Twilight Sentinel option, and if not, why I didn't. Then, YOU came along and flamed me. What'd you expect me to do? Let you tell me I'm wrong, when what you posted was wrong itself?

Why is it that it's ok to flame me, and I don't have the right to substantiate my position? Sheesh...

Now, where is that emoticon with the guy puking when you need it?

Edit: I found it:

OK, now I can say at least I learned something from this thread.

My apologies to Girl-in-a-Box for this thread getting out of hand.

No flame for you or anyone else. I strongly agreed with someone.

Lot's of miles behind me as well and have never had a problem with low beams in fog except when they were aimed to high (or too much beef in the back seat, making the car squat ). I couldn't never see anthing with my fogs at night without the lows on.

All that said, if you can deal with the coastal fog you get there, you are doing something right.

Another good point:

I don't use it. I like to think that I'm still smart enough to figure out when I need to turn the headlights on.

You can rebuild them with a brass gear ($30) and have a motor that will probably last longer than you willl even keep your car.
