Since my car is going for a little check up...I might as well look into some easy mods. Is the shorty antenna something someone like me (a grrrl with no power tools) could put on easily? Third or fourth dumb question for youse keeping track
For the most part, the reception is the same. I suspect in areas where reception is problematic, it might be a bit worse. I personally have a Pep Boys not quite as shorty antenna (its about 14" high) and I don't see any noticeable difference in my area.
I got mine from there - it looks much better than the stock Z06 antenna, but I can tell you for certain that your reception will deteriorate somewhat - not so much the strong stations but the weaker ones that you used to get with the stock antenna will fade away. No big deal, IMHO.
I use a cell phone antennae on mine. It is very short but more powerful so you don't lose reception. They have them @ wally-world et.al. Or buy direct from your wireless provider. Mine came with a red ball on the tip and was 12 bucks. Good luck!

Yes we are and this is number 4. You don't wanna know what happens when you get to 10. So make em count girl!!!
Like the others said. Just a plain old pair of pliars (I know you must have these) and rag to stop scratches and marring.
I got a flexible one from Pep Boys for about $15. It's about 14" so it looks better than the factory mast and I don't worry about anyone breaking it. But it does bend on the highway. Reception is just as good as stock from what I can tell. The R-D Racing one is a tiny stub one if you want a realy shorty. But reception might be an issue.
I never liked the looks of the "shorty" antenna (6"). Reminds me of a dog's tail cut off. Short and stubby. Get rid of the stock one though. JMO.
This is the one I have http://www.westcoastcorvette.com/p-7...h-antenna.aspx
that looks terrible imo. looks like something off a cop car. but to each their own. the biggest shortcoming of the shorty antenna on a black car is that you don't see it and cut yourself bad if you wipe fast when dusting the car off.
I like the one I got from RDRacing. Got rid of the fishing pole attached to the Z. Reception is good here in Sarasota but wasn't so good in Cherokee. Big difference in the market and much more radio choices in Fl..
