I cut mine down to 9".
I used a rag and some vice grips to pull the **** off of the mast -
I cut the mast to 9", and then I used a dremel to machine the mast tip down so it would fit into the hole in the ball (tight interference fit).
I also used a dab of silicone in the hole for additional assuranceit would not come off.
Then, just paint it black again and you are good to go.
No problems with reception that I can tell - radio comes in good, and the antenna looks cool!
I bought a stock replacement mast for around $10 to have just in case I want the "state police whip look" again...
