Default Superchips

Does anyone have any experience with SuperChips, a local company in Sanford Fl that has developed a device that changes your factory setting for better performance and a 10 -15 hp increase. Very easy to program and very easy to change back to factory defaults prior to taking you vehicle in for warranty work. The people are great to deal with and very knowledgeable, I have not made the purchase.. yet. looking for feedback., Thanks, Duds

Yes I do. I have the Superchip handheld 2150 unit. Sent it in for an update one time and the folks were great at answering questions.

You may get some improvements from this kind of device, but the tune is a cookie cutter version. To really get the benefits from a tune, you need to find a knowledgeable tuner in your area and have a custom tune done. Even though we all get the same factory tune for our particular cars, each car responds differently to tuning, The only way to get the maximum for your particular car is to get a custom tune so that the variables for your car are maximized!

Again...you may see improvement from the cookie cutter tune, but you will most likely see better results from a custom tune. The tuner can make adjustments for the gasoline in your area, altitude, etc.

Good luck!

That's all true, but, on the other hand:

I have a Hypertech unit and it feels like another 10-15 hp after install. And, when the dealer had a recall, afterward I reprogrammed it for nothing. With a custom tune, all that money is gone, you have to pay for another tune.
Plus, I paid $325 for mine and it took 15 minutes in the garage. Whereas a custom job is around $500 and by the time you drive there, have it done, and drive back, will take at least a few hours.
Plus, you see them used on this forum for about $100-$150.
Plus, when you're finished with it, you can resell it on this forum.

Just a few things to consider. Good luck.

I lent Superchips my 01 coupe for use in development of their unit and got mine for free. They also gave me dyno plots of before and after, which was pretty

I agree a custom tune will produce better results, but I loved the ability to take it off for dealer work and slap it back on.

When I bought my 04 I contacted them again and since much of the computer internals changed in 04 they used my car to develop the new model required for an 04. This weekend I will finally get around to getting my new Superchips unit and trading them back my old one. Just in time for my HPDE in May up in Watkins Glen.

For the price I think they're great, and a few extra HP plus no more CAGS is always nice. I use only 93 octane so no worries about the relatively modest tweaks. I figure it's a safe and effective 10-15HP and easy to remove if ever I feel the need.

I do carry it in the car so that if I had a problem while on the road I can reset to factory before the rollback arrives.

When I had my accident in 04 I didn't yet have it programmed, but I would've had a problem seeing as how the friendly firefighter cut my battery cable to shut the horn off. Me hopping around on a broken foot with the car in a ditch would've made deprogramming a bit dicey even with a battery, but that's one of those situations you just can't plan for.

I like mine. The biggest improvement is having the ability yo change the fan settings and disabling the torque management. "A4" I recommend it.

I was very satified with my Superchips "custom" handheld mail-order tune. (Handheld options for '98's are very limited.)

In fact, when I had the car professionally dyno tuned using HP Tuners software on a Dynojet dyno- the tuner got basically zilch over the Superchips baseline!
