Default Resetting tire sensors

I am having Falken's 451's put on Wedsday. What tool do I need to set the tires sensors or where the heck can I buy a magnet that will work! Should I replace the batteries as well, and if so what type of batteries do I get.

I did the wheel and tire thing last year on my 04. Had the tires/wheels mounted, sensors transferred at our goodyear place. Took the car to the dealership where I have it serviced and the reset the sensors. Took about 20 minutes. No charge, but threw 10.00 in the coffee kitty.

You won't need to touch the sensors or recalibrate them as long as the wheels go back in the same position that they were originally mounted.

A speaker magnet or a strong magnet held up against the valve stem will allow you to retrain them - but just make sure left front stays left front, etc.

As far as replacing batteries in the sensors - they are not really designed to have the batteries changed. There have been some members that have experimented with changing out the batteries with very limited success. If you have reason to suspect that the sensors are failing - when you change out the tires - that would be the best time to change the sensors. If you do decide to change them - you will have to retrain them. I think Gene at Fred Beans had the best deals on the 1st gen sensors. Also - remember that the 1st gen sensors ('97 - '00) are not compatible with the 2nd gen sensors ('01 - '04). The sensors were designed with about 7 - 8 years life expectancy, so you are probably about due. I replaced mine last October after one failed. I assumed they were all bad - and replaced all four.

I have always had success with an automotive pick-up tool used to lift dropped small parts and tools but as stated above, if the wheels go back in the same place and you don't change the sensors, you won't have to do anything. New sensors are about $75 to $110 depending on what year and where you buy. Good luck!

Default Sensors with replaced batteries...

I am running a full set (4) of sensors which had the batteries replaced. I have not had any problems with them.

Any large magnet will work when replacing the sensors. I bought a large magnet at Harbor Freight. Works great.

blacksedan87 is right - if you keep the wheels on the same corner as before, you won't have to reprogram the sensors. If not, just get a strong magnet from a place like Radio Shack and you should be able to retrain them.

I used a crappy factory 6X9 speaker magnet and it was strong enough to train the sensors.

Go to Radio Shack and ask them for a magnet. I picked up a 1 x 2 inch rectangular magnet for 99 cents. Works fine and can be carried in the car in case you ever need it again.
