My 2000 vert had every major option except the CD changer, so I had a Corvette shop in Columbus, OH add it. I bought the OEM changer (made by Pioneer) brand new on eBay, it came with the installation kit and wiring. By pre-wired, they mean the car is pre-wired to the fuse box, and the Delco head unit has changer controls. You have to run the wiring harness from the trunk up the passenger side of the car to the fuse box, where it just plugs in to the pre-wired harness. Hope this helps!
Another alternative is to just get a portable mp3 player (ipod, etc.) and play it through your existing tape deck with a cassette adapter. I use this in my van and it works great. No need for CDs when your mp3 player can hold 1000 CDs in a package the size of a deck of cards.
When I got my Corvette 2 years ago, it came with a CD changer in the trunk but I hardly use it because I just play my MP3 player through the tape deck with a cassette adapter.
I will put in my two cents. The advice is worth what you pay. I have a CD 12 disc change and it works perfectly. I never use TC and the unit doesn't skip - in fact I have NEVER heard it skip. So don't fear its performance if that is what you want. BUT... I am switching everything over to MP3/WMA. I am converting every CD I own and plan to never purchase another. The Vette is the last car that I am converting to read the player - Its a vert, and I try to leave the top down all the time. I really only us ethe CD around town as it gets a bit noisy at highway speed for music.
Latest news indicates that Microsoft is entering the IPOD competition and I prophesy that within a couple of years CD's will really begin to go away.
My sugestion - save money and go to MP3 today. Lost of advice on how to do it with the stock Bose unit or after market sound systems.

I was in couple of places looking for CDs and ther isn't a very good selection I like Jazz I guess I need to keep up with the times will be looking into MP3
Phoenix FRC, if you're really certain your FRC's radio is NOT Bose, then you might consider replacing it with the Delco CD unit from a 2000 (plus or minus 3 years) Chevy S10 pickup or Blazer (without Bose). You should be able to find one on eBay (from one of the "reputable" dealers, eg.: bowtiestereoman) for less than $150. And, they look just like the factory CD radios (mostly because they are).
Should be a plug-in replacement. Just make sure your current system is NOT Bose first.

For those seeking all kinds of music, I will only say one word: Usenet.
So, if your car came with the cassette player can you install a stock cd player and will it plug right up without modification?
It did, that's what I have.
This is simple and easy right here.
If its cheap, I'm good.
I just spent a bit of money on perf mods but now its time to sink a little into creature comforts like tunes.
I'll talk with the guys at AZ-Power & Sound because they said its cheap and easy too and I think they where talking about MP3 stuff too.
I'll also look up the Stock GM stuff, I have access to stock 1998~2003 Pontiac Grand Prix CD/Head units that are the same physical size and I have been wondering how and what fitment problems there might be if any.
Thanks,

Sorry to be such a tease... Since my last post in this thread, I decided to keep my CD head unit, bit the bullet and bought an iPod, an iPod2Car adapter, hooked it all up and have been in rock and roll heaven ever since. I'm in the process of installing an iPod dock adapter in the cup holder. I've purchased two Girl In a Box cupholders to hold the beverages.
