Hi,
I have a 2000 FRC and believe it or not... it comes with am-fm & cassette only.
I really miss not being able to play a CD or anything else other then radio.
Does anyone have a working stock in-dash CD player for sale or can someone make a suggestion on what after market unit will fit in there and not look stupid/ugly?
i ended up going with a Pioneer unit with WMA and MP3 capabilities. Don't need a CD changer when you can burn 12 CDs onto one disk. I did have to buy the interface cable so the head unit would work with the bose amps, and speakers, but i definitly like it better. The install doesn't look too bad either.
Mine came with a cd changer...so I am not positive.
But aren't all C5's pre-wired for a cd changer?
I know F-bodies were... I added one to my '00Z28 and it was pre-wired to the back. All i needed was a changer and an adapter.
Another alternative is to just get a portable mp3 player (ipod, etc.) and play it through your existing tape deck with a cassette adapter. I use this in my van and it works great. No need for CDs when your mp3 player can hold 1000 CDs in a package the size of a deck of cards.

I agree with skipping the CD option and going straight to MP3. Speaking of skipping, CD's skip when the traction control is cranked up on anything past touring mode or if you have Z51 suspension or whatever. Plus, CD's are such a PIA and really don't hold that much music! Have you checked the center storage area in the back for pre-wiring for the 12 CD changer? Those were only available with the cassette player, right?
Hang on a minute. I may be willing to swap my single CD player for your cassette unit so I can go MP3!!! Any difference in the Bose unit between 2000 and 2002? Because I really like the way mine sounds with the right programming material!!!

I don't think it has Bose because the Bose has the name badge on the speaker grills... I think. Really this car is a base model, even the drivers seat is manual operation.
I do appreciate the options thou-
I like the sounds of going direct to MP3, that's a good idea.
Typically I would just spend my money on mods but I like havig music, the car is a sanctuary in more ways than one.
I need to get some tips on how to locate the prewire for the CD changer, if it's there then I'm sure Panasonic makes the unit because Panasonic makes ACDelco CD players for GM.
Hmmm, got me thinking about the MP3 thing.
I had one of those tape convertor thingy's, maybe 15 years ago and it sucked pretty bad, the quality must be much better now.
Thanks,
Don't know what kind of budget you have, but you might want to consider double din nav unit. There are a few people who modified their own bezel. And C5 Kidd is starting to sell them. And I also have Sirius Satelite Radio and love it. I never listen to FM anymore. Just mp3's burned onto CD's and Satelite. Good luck in your decision.
I had the cassette HU with the CD changer in my car. I really wanted satellite as simply as possible. I purchased a 1.5 DIN Pioneer unit (DEH 77) and the Soundgate adapter. Fits right in and sounds much better than the Delco HU. I'll probably do the 2 DIN D1/D2 next winter but I didn't want to wait for Sirius.
Anyway... then I did a search for the Eclipse and those are really nice but slightly over my interest because 50% of the time I just listen to the motor. in fact I'll be doing more right after I install my LT headers & I already have the Corsa Indy PC exh.
But anyway.. I also found this.. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/arch....php/f-20.html See... CF if a wealth of knowledge.
You guys got me convinced, I'll get something that will play MP3's or accept an input from my pocket MP3 player.

If you were really serious about swapping I have a Bose Cassette headunit that I would love to change out for a single CD. If you are really interested PM or e-mail me (JTS90SC@Comcast.net)
Thanks

Thanks my question. My 98 TA was prewired, but until someone told me EXACTLY where to look I could not locate the wire.
I also just bought an FRC, and I want to add the cd changer. Any help locating that wire would be appreciated.
